Product description The EM-Red 500 Series Microphone Preamp from A-Designs derives its tone from the proprietary input transformer which features a unique winding, and a custom-wound steel/nickel-wound output transformer with an exclusive A-Designs alloy ratio. It can be used to add extra kick to a mic that lacks midrange or for bringing an instrument forward in a mix. Its upfront mids make it ideal for use with drums, guitar, bass, and acoustic instruments. It is especially effective when used for recording acoustic guitar with a condenser mic, as well as for capturing the resonance and character of rack and floor toms. The EM-Red can be used in applications for live performance, recording, broadcast environments, and more. The module is built with a 1/4" mic/line input and has 48V phantom power with an LED to indicate when it is active. A phase button and dB pad are also located on the front panel, along with a large gain control knob. With a variety of modules to choose from, the EM 500 series platform makes it possible to construct your own custom signal-processing array. The EM-Red 500 Series Microphone Preamp is compatible with any API or VPR Alliance mounting device, and also meets the precise power rating requirements necessary to function from the moment you plug it in. The hardware rack is sold separately. - The alloys used for the transformer's winding - along with the number of windings - will impart a distinct sonic quality: nickel-wound transformers provide a more transparent sound with an airy high end, while steel can impart a thick "Neve-like" midrange or low end
- The upfront mids of the EM-Red make it suitable for drums, guitar, bass guitar, and acoustic instruments
- The EM-Red is particularly useful when recording acoustic guitar with a condenser microphone
