Product description Connect a single 3.5" or 2.5" SATA III hard drive to your USB Type-C system using the SK-3501 U3.1 USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Hard Drive Enclosure from Akitio. The fanless aluminum enclosure features passive cooling using a large heatsink and can accommodate drives ranging in size from 80GB to 8TB. Furthermore, in addition to providing transfers speeds of up to 10 Gb/s, the USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C interface also supports Power Delivery and provides up to 15W of power to compatible laptops for device charging.
Akitio's SK-3501 U3.1 is compatible with USB 3.1 Gen 1 and may be used on USB Type-A systems via a USB Type-C to Type-A adapter. Supported operating systems include Windows 7 and later, as well as macOS 10.12 and later. Included is a USB Type-C to Type-C cable and a power adapter. Please note that the power adapter must always be used and that this device is not powered by the USB bus. Protection is provided by a limited 2-year warranty. - By incorporating 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 technology, the SK-3501 U3.1 is able to deliver up to twice the speed of the USB 3.1 Gen 1 connection, which runs at only 5 Gb/s. However, the SK-3501 U3.1 is compatible with USB 3.1 Gen 1 and may also be used with USB Type-A via an adapter cable.

- The reversible USB Type-C connector enhances ease of use for connecting USB devices with a focus on minimizing user confusion for plug and cable orientation. The SK-3501 U3.1 supports power delivery (PD) over USB Type-C, providing 15W of power to laptops like the MacBook Pro (Late 2016) that support charging from a 5V/3A power source. This allows you to work with the external drive without the battery levels of your laptop dropping, even though the laptop is not plugged into any other power source.
