Product description Use the Alpine Astronomical Diamond Steeldrive Motor Drive to add precision to your Diamond Steeltrack focuser while eliminating unwanted vibration.This device utilizes a stepper motor to drive a timing belt looped over the focuser's fine-tuning knob. The motor has a high torque with low power consumption, capable of lifting up to 6.6 pounds (3kg) running from either three user-supplied AA batteries or from a standard 5V USB port. Installation of the motor on the focuser is easy and does not require any disassembly or permanent modification. When installed, you retain complete access to the focuser's manual control knobs, so you can leave the motor mounted even when it's not in use. The motor can be controlled via an optional stand-alone hand control box or from a computer running the free SteelGo II software.The standout feature of the motor drive is its temperature-compensation system. Utilizing the included probe, the electronics monitor the ambient air temperature and automatically make micro-adjustments to the focuser to keep views tack-sharp as the temperature changes. For example, as the night air cools, the focuser will compensate for the change in the telescope's focal plane location by changing the focus to match. To ensure accuracy, you'll need to calibrate the temperature versus focus position for your rig. The probe measures temperature changes as little as 0.01°, with displays reading to 0.1°C.
