Product description The Opteron 6164 1.7 GHz Processor from AMD is a 12 core processor with 512KB L2 cache per core, and 12MB L3 cache per socket. This processor comes equipped with HyperTransport Technology Assist, HyperTransport 3.0 technology, AMD CoolSpeed technology, and AMD Virtualization technology 2.0. It also features Advanced Platform Management Link (APML), C1E, and LV-DDR3 memory. Direct Connect Architecture 2.0 - Quad Channel Memory
- Quad channel memory offers double the memory capacity and memory bandwidth of the previous generations of AMD Opteron processors. (Based on quad channel DDR3-1333 for AMD Opteron 6100 Series processor vs. dual channel DDR2-800 for six-core AMD Opteron processor.)
- R/U-DDR3 Memory up to 1333 MHz
- R/U-DDR3 memory up to 1333 MHz enables improved system performance
- HyperTransport Technology Assist (HT Assist)
- HT Assist increases HyperTransport technology efficiency by reducing probe traffic and resolving probe issues
- HyperTransport 3.0 Technology (HT3)
- HT3 with 4th HT Link and increased speed up to 6.4 GT/s provides system bandwidth between CPU's and I/O to help improve system balance and scalability
- Cache and Core Count
- Core count of 12 cores and total 19.6MB cache offers improved performance and performance/watt compared to prior generations for multi-threaded environments such as virtualization, database, and web serving
AMD-P 2.0 Power Savings Features - Advanced Platform Management Link (APML)*
- APML (in APML-enabled platforms) provides an interface for processor and systems management monitoring and controlling of system resources such as platform power consumption via p-state limits and CPU thermals to closely monitor power and cooling.

- If the processor's thermal environment exceeds safe operational limits, AMD CoolSpeed Technology reduces the p-states to allow the server to operate
