Boasting on-the-fly AES 256-bit hardware encryption, the Aegis Padlock DT desktop drive sports PIN protection, a wear-resistant keypad, and a heat-dissipating aluminum enclosure. Offering data transfer rates up to 5 Gb/s, the plug-and-play Aegis Padlock DT features a USB 3.1 Gen 1/USB 3.0 interface, brute-force protection, forced administrator and user enrollment, an auto-lock mode, and a lock override mode. - The Aegis Padlock DT FIPS 140-2 validation CERT #2835 is the cryptography standard required by the U.S. federal government for protection of all sensitive data, covering 11 areas of its cryptographic security system, including physical security, cryptographic key management, and design integrity.

- Featuring 256-bit AES hardware encryption, the Aegis Padlock seamlessly encrypts all data on the drive on the fly and keeps your data safe even if the hard drive is removed from the enclosure.
- USB 3.1 Gen 1/USB 3.0 Interface
- The Aegis Desktop DT delivers data rates up to 5 Gb/s via its USB 3.1/USB 3.0 interface. USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.0 are synonymous.
- Aegis Configurator Compatible
- Create custom profiles and mass configure multiple Padlock DTs with Apricorn's Aegis Configurator/Powered Hub bundle.
- Admin and User Forced Enrollment
- With no default factory pre-set PINs, the admin and (if desired) the initial user must each first establish a unique Personal Identity Number (PIN) to access the drive.
- Programmable Minimum PIN length
- For added PIN length and enhanced security, minimum PIN length requirement can be increased from 6 characters up to the maximum of 16
- One-Time Recovery PINs
- In the event that a user PIN is forgotten, up to 4 one-time use recovery PINs can be programmed to permit access to the drive's data.
- Administrator Mode
- Allows for one administrator to set parameters for PIN management, Read-Only, Auto-Lock, Self-Destruct, Lock-Override, and Brute Force modes.
- Auto-Lock Feature
- The drive locks automatically whenever it's unplugged from its powered USB port, and is further programmable to lock after a predetermined period of inactivity.
- Lock-Override Mode
- Designated for specific cases in which the drive needs to remain unlocked, such as during reboot, passing the drive through a virtual machine, or similar situations that would normally prompt the Padlock DT to automatically lock. When enabled, Lock-Override Mode allows the drive to remain unlocked through USB port re-enumeration and will not re-lock unless power is interrupted.
- Drive Reset
- Allows the drive to be cleared and redeployed. Capable of generating an infinite number of randomly generated encryption keys, the Aegis Padlock DT can be reset as many times as desired.
- Brute-Force Protection
- After a predetermined number (programmable; up to 20) of incorrect PIN entry attempts, the Padlock DT will conclude that it is under brute-force attack and will respond by performing a crypto-erase, deleting the encryption key and rendering all the key's data useless.
- Two Read-Only Modes
- Handy for accessing data on the drive in a public setting to protect against USB viruses. Particularly important in forensics, read-only mode is ideal for applications that require data to be preserved in its original, unaltered state and can't be overwritten or modified. The Padlock DT has two read-only modes. One is set by an administrator in Admin Mode and can't be modified or disabled by anyone else. The second read-only mode can be set and disabled by a user but can also be overridden by an administrator.
- Wear-Resistant Key Pad
- Designed with protection in mind, the entire Aegis Padlock family incorporates wear-resistant, urethane-coated rubberized buttons to hide frequent key usage and avoid tipping off a potential hacker to commonly used keys.
- Software-Free and Cross-Platform Compatible
- Requires no software to set up or operate. Compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. Supports most computer USB ports or USB devices.
- Lock Slot
- Compatible with most standard security locks, the Aegis Padlock DT's lock slot lets you secure the drive to your desk or other permanent fixture for an added layer of physical security.
