Product description The Archival Methods 14x18" Drop Front Storage Box for Newspapers - Newsprint, by its very nature is a poor candidate for long term preservation; it is manufactured at the lowest possible cost and contains acid, lignin and other impurities that do not bode well for long life. But there are things you can do. If the newspaper is of important historical or personal value, consider contacting a paper conservator who can neutralize some of the harmful impurities. However, this can be costly if you are doing more than a handful of clippings but such "deacidification" can enhance newsprint life. Archival Methods Newsprint Storage Boxes are made from the highest quality materials to preserve valuable newsprint. There is no longer any need to roll these papers up with a rubber band and throw them into the upper reaches of a closet where they will degrade from time, light, humidity and surrounding acid-eating materials. By storing your newsprint in one of their polyethylene bags and then inside an acid-free, archival box, you'll be able to look at them with a smile in years to come. The included (and reusable desiccant container) provides additional protection against moisture. With Archival Methods, your headlines will be preserved for generations to come. Note: Each Kit consists of three components: One Drop Front Box, Ten Poly bags, One Reusable Desiccant; Metal Canister can be reactivated in vented oven or Plastic Canister restore in microwave oven - Store papers in archival quality polyethylene bags and then storing the aged papers in archival boxes; with this double-protection the box then needs to be stored in a cool, dry environment such as a closet in an air-conditioned home
- Avoid temperature and humidity extremes found in basements or attics; if it is uncomfortable for you it will be uncomfortable for your stored newspapers
