Product description Boost your home or office data storage with the ARC-8050U3-6 6-Bay USB Type-C RAID Enclosure from Areca. Capable of read/write speeds up to 1055 MB/s, this RAID enclosure comes with six 2.5/3.5" drive bays, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 host interface, a dual-core 1.2 GHz RAID-on-chip processor, 2 GB of DDR-31866 SDRAM memory, and board-level hardware encryption. Compatible with USB Type-C- or Thunderbolt 3-equipped Mac and Windows systems, the ARC-8050U3-6 can be configured to RAID 0, 1, 1E, 3, 5, and 6, as well as single-disk and JBOD modes. Hot-swappable discs and battery backup modules (purchased separately) are also supported. The enclosure can be configured remotely via a dedicated Ethernet port using a firmware-embedded, browser-based RAID manager. - Broadcom 12G SAS Engine
- ARC-8050U3-6 integrates the Broadcom 12 Gb/s dual-core SAS RAID-on-chip to deliver optimal SAS and SATA bandwidth and protection. It delivers true hardware RAID functionality without sharing the CPU computing power on the host system, particularly when rebuilding an array in the event of a drive failure.
- 2GB DDR3-1866 SDRAM
- With its 2GB of DDR3-1866 SDRAM, the ARC-8050U3-6 is designed to deliver smooth multitasking during periods of high load in a 4K environment. The ARC-8050U3-6 can configure how much cache SDRAM should be dedicated for read and write operations. If your server application has significantly more reads than writes or more writes than reads, you can change this setting to adjust the read/write cache ratio for optimal performance.
- SAS Expansion Port
- An external SFF-8644 (2 x 12 Gb/s ports) expansion connector can support JBOD, SAS and/or SATA target ports. The SAS RAID storage can support capacity expansion by adding expander enclosures. You can expand the storage up to 512 HDDs through the expander enclosures.
- Controller-Based Hardware Encryption Engine
- Host-independent, real-time, controller-based hardware encryption does not impact the performance of the ARC-8050U3-6 RAID storage system and can be implemented on any HDD that is transparent to the user, the OS, and applications. Areca encryption functionality secures sensitive, mission-critical data from unauthorized access or modification in the event of drive theft, the return of defective drives for servicing, or the decommission or repurposing of drives. Local key management in the controller is designed to protect data from security breaches with minimal cost and complexity. Users can use the ARC-8050U3-6 RAID storage API code to design their own key-management utility. ARC-8050U3-6 RAID storage supports 128- and 256-bit encryption keys using AES (with a key size of 128 or 256 bits) or password (a variable key size).
- SED-Based Encryption
- Designed to secure data in the hard disks from unauthorized access or modification resulting from theft, loss, or repurposing of drives. Protection is achieved by the SED hard drive, which automatically and continuously encrypts the data on the drive without any user interaction.
- RAID Storage Power On/Off Controls
- The power controls can turn on or off the ARC-8050U3-6's power in unison with the host computer, which helps to ensure data integrity.
- LCD Display
- All configuration and management of the controller and its properly connected disk arrays can be performed from the LCD status panel. The display informs you of the array's real-time operating status at a glance.
- LAN Management
- A dedicated LAN management port lets you set up and manage RAID storage through an out-of-band web browser manager and the ArcSAP utility, without needing a driver on the host system or disturbing the host access.
- Web Browser-Based Management
- The McRAID storage manager is a firmware-based utility that is accessible via the web browser installed on your operating system, and it can be accessed through the out-of-band Ethernet port.
- Areca Single Admin Portal (ArcSAP)
- The ArcSAP quick manager can scan multiple RAID arrays in the local and remote systems and provide an effective mechanism for configuring your RAID units.
- HDD Xfer Speed
- This firmware-level feature is used to measure the drive's read performance. If the read-only palimpsest benchmark drops below the normal curve, something may be wrong with the disk.
- Optional Smart Battery
- The ARC-8050U3-6 RAID storage system has integrated caches for increasing performance. With corresponding protective mechanisms, the content of the unwritten cached data in the SDRAM would be lost in the event of a complete AC power failure or a brief power outage. For that reason, an optional battery backup unit (BBU) protects the integrity of cached data by providing backup power. The optional module has built-in functionality to charge the battery pack automatically and to communicate battery status information to the RAID storage.
- Quiet Operation
- The intelligent cooling continuously adapts to environmental conditions by automatically controlling the speed of the cooling fan. As a result, the fan reduces noise to a minimum, ideal for noise-sensitive work environments. You can also configure the ARC-8050U3-6 to intelligently spin down drives during periods of inactivity to further reduce noise and save energy.
- Compatibility
- The ARC-8050U3-6 RAID storage system is OS independent, with no additional software or driver installation required, and it is compatible with most computers equipped with a Thunderbolt 3 or USB Type-C port.
- Data Availability
- ARC-8050U3-6 supports the hardware RAID 6 engine to allow two HDDs failures without impact the existing data and performance. It allows users to hot-swap drives in the event of a drive failure with zero downtime.
