Product description Powered by 2nd Generation Ryzen, Ryzen with Radeon Vega graphics, 1st Generation Ryzen, 7th Generation A-Series, and Athlon X4 processors, the Republic of Gamers Crosshair VII Hero AM4 ATX Motherboard from ASUS maximizes connectivity and speed with dual NVMe M.2 slots, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, front panel USB 3.1 Gen 2, and Gigabit Ethernet. It is backed by 5-Way Optimization with Auto-Tuning and FanXpert 4, Aura Sync RGB lighting, a pre-mounted I/O shield, and 8-channel HD audio. This motherboard is designed to fit in ATX sized cases, supports the AM4 socket, the AMD X470 chipset, and is compatible with Windows 10 (64-bit).
The ATX form factor of the ROG Crosshair VII Hero can support up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM over four dual-channel slots, or 16GB per slot. The supported memory speeds include 3600 (OC), 3466 (OC), 3400 (OC), 3200 (OC), 3000 (OC), 2933 (OC), 2800 (OC), 2666, 2400, and 2133 MHz ECC and non-ECC unbuffered memory. For storage, there is one M.2 socket 3 with M key that supports 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110 SATA and PCIe 3.0 x4 SSDs, while a second M.2 Socket 3 with M key slot supports 2242, 2260, and 2280 PCIe 3.0 x4 SSDs. Compatibility with traditional hard drives is included with six SATA III 6 Gb/s ports, which also support RAID 0, 1, and 10.
There is also one USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port, one USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A, port, eight USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, all at the back panel, plus one USB 3.1 Gen connector that supports two ports and one USB 2.0 connector that supports three ports (one via the ROG_EXT header), all mid-board, and one USB 3.1 Gen 2 front panel connector. For those looking to expand their system using PCIe, there is one PCIe 3.0 x16/x8 slot, one PCIe 3.0 x8/x4 slot, one PCIe 2.0 x16/x4 slot, and two PCIe 2.0 x1 slots.
ASUS' ROG Crosshair VII Hero does not support integrated graphics, meaning that users will need to purchase a dedicated and compatible graphics card of their choice. Once that card is installed, users will be able to enjoy multi-GPU support with NVIDIA 2-Way SLI and AMD 3-Way CrossFireX technologies. Using the 8-Channel ROG SupremeFX S1220 audio codec, this motherboard can support audio with higher fidelity than standard controllers, including 120 dB SNR playback output and 113 dB SNR recording input. Audio can be output using the five integrated 3.5mm audio jacks or the S/PDIF output.
