Product description The ADC16 by Benchmark Media is a full featured 16-channel A/D (analog to digital) converter with a flexible I/O (in/out) routing solution, UltraLock DDS clock system, optional firewire capabilities, and a 9-segment meter for each channel on the front end. The ADC16 has 16 transformerless analog inputs with 20 dB gain controls, and with the optional firewire card, it can be the sole interface to your modern-day DAW. If using the ADAT mode of the optical outputs, the ADC16 can interface with older Pro Tools LE interfaces, or any other interface supporting ADAT or coaxial inputs. The 8 optical outputs on the ADC16 also support SPDIF and can handle sample-rates up to 192kHz. Either way, the ADC16 is flexible enough to interface with any DAW setup necessary. The Ultralock DDS clock system is based on low jitter technology originally intended for high-frequency RF communications systems. The system features a fixed frequency, low phase noise oscillator with temperature compensation capable of +/-2 PPM frequency accuracy. The oscillator is mated with a 500MHz Direct Digital Synthesis system capable of generating a 3072 x WC system clock. The 8 converters feature their own matched-impedance transmission line and jitter distortion is always a comfortable 135 dB below the level of music. Avoiding an asynchronous sample rate conversion system allows the ADC16 to reduce latency and provide the most direct path from the A/D to the digital interface. Finally, the Ultralock DDS system can lock to any sample rate between 28 and 200 kHz almost instantly and is designed with pull-up/pull-down sample rates to handle film or video transfers flawlessly. The front end of the ADC16 rounds out an elegant A/D solution from Benchmark and features 9-segment meters per channel, each of which can be displayed in 6 dB or 1 dB increments. Each meter also features a peak-hold mode and is sample accurate to guarantee that each peak is registered. Overall, the ADC16 stays true to Benchmark's philosophy: digital converters should preserve all of the glorious nuances of the source so that the listener can simply engage with the music. - Dual DB25 Connectors for Transformerless Balanced Analog Inputs
- The ADC16 features 16 channels of transformerless balanced analog inputs.
- 16 Channels of Analog to Digital Conversion
- 16 Channels of A/D conversion are available using the award winning Benchmark circuitry to ensure the listener can engage the music without distraction.
- 20 dB Input Gain Trimpots for Each Channel
- Each analog input has an independent gain control via a trim-pot with a 20 dB range. Without clipping, each channel can accept 28 dBu when at 0 dB of gain and at max gain, each input can handle an 8 dB signal.
- Benchmark's 9-Segment Dual-Range Digital LED Meters with Peak Hold
- Each of the 16 Channels features a 9-segment meter. They are sample accurate so even short peaks will register. The meters can also be set to register in 6 or 1 dB increments and each meter features a peak hold function which will hold the highest sample until the meter is reset.
- Conversion at Standard and Non-Standard Sample Rates
- The ADC16 will lock to the standard sample rates of 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, and 192 kHz, along with non-standard sample rates between 28-200 kHz.
- Multifunction Clock Input with Autorecognition
- The ADC16's clock input will automatically recognize which mode to utilize including AES, SPDIF, Word Clock, or Super Clock.
- Phase Accurate UltralockDDS Technology
- Developed for high-frequency RF communications systems, the UltralockDDS clock system is the latest in low-jitter clock technology. It utilizes a fixed frequency master oscillator with low phase noise and temperature compensation, and achieves a +/-2 PPM frequency accuracy. The UltralockDDS system also incorporates a 500 Mhz Direct Digital Synthesis system, a high speed PECL clock distribution chip, and eliminates asynchronous sample rate conversion for the most direct signal path during the A/D process.
- Multiple Digital Output Options
- The eight optical outputs in the ADC16 can be operated in SPDIF or ADAT modes at sample rates up to 192 kHz, and include SMUX2/SMUX4 functionality. The user can also define A/D or DAW for each of the supported AES, coaxial, or optical digital outputs. This allows the ADC16 to completely bypass the DAW for reduced latency, or interface with analog consoles if needed. Overall, the ADC16 is flexible enough to be compatible with just about any interface on the market.
- Internal International Power Supply
- The ADC16 hosts a wide ranging internal power supply , ensuring that it can operate just about anywhere in the world. 90-264 VAC, 47-63 Hz
