Product description The red, 10' Star Quad XLR Male to XLR Female Microphone Cable from Canare is especially designed for handheld microphone applications in live sound, rehearsals, and other situations. In addition to mic-level signals, the cable can also be used to carry line-level signals for applications such as connecting your mixer to power amps. The Star Quad cable features a 4-conductor design that is engineered to substantially reduce vulnerability to electromagnetic and radio frequency interference when compared with 2-conductor cables. It uses 21 AWG copper wire and features cross-linked, flexible, irradiated polyethylene insulation, which is designed to maintain maximum frequency response and to be more heat resistant than ordinary polyethylene. It also utilizes braided copper shielding, which is designed for greater noise rejection and durability than spiral shielding. The cable also includes cotton filler to cut down on handling noise. This can be beneficial in handheld microphone applications in which the cable may be subject to a substantial amount of movement. - Filler
- Uses cotton, jute, and exotic polyester fibers for packing. These fillers prevent stretching and twisting of the inner conductors which can cause noise. Additionally, paper, Mylar, and cloth tape bind the conductors so that the cables hold their shape.
- Conductors
- Utilizes high-conductivity, annealed copper wires stranded to form flexible conductors and shields.
- Insulation
- Special polymer compounds reduce capacitive "R-C" filter roll off within the cable and prevent high-voltage breakdown. By irradiating the material, the polymer becomes extensively cross-linked, chemically inert, water resistant, and remains flexible at very low temperatures. Irradiated PE is superior to ordinary polyethylene because it is heat resistant. The insulation will not shrink back, flow, or char when soldering, so you save initial and rework time and achieve more reliable connections.
- Shield
- Very flexible shield composed of thin copper stands in a densely-woven braid offers superb noise rejection.
- Jacket
- Uses PVC compounds that combine to make a strong and durable outer jacket with excellent flexibility which is retained even at very low temperatures, to prevent stiffening or cracking.
- Applications
- Designed to withstand the rigors of hand-held mic use, this cable is also well-suited for studio microphones, tie lines, patch cords, rack wiring, snake systems, and PA mixers.
