For safe viewing, and to protect the optical system, it must be used in conjunction with a front SolarMax filter. The snout and eyepiece holder are made to fit larger 2" drawtubes and eyepieces, allowing for wider fields of view and longer eye reliefs. While SolarMax filters are sold in kits that include a blocking filter, this 30mm filter is offered here for viewers who have two different sized telescopes that they want to use their SolarMax system with but require a different size blocking filter.
