Product description Blue Sunprints Cyanotype Cotton Squares - 6 x 6" (25 Pack, Raspberry) will change your life. I'm not kidding. Have you ever made a raspberry colored print before? Well, if you have, I'm sure you're back for more, but the rest of you are in for a wild experience. Turning the traditional cyanotype on its ear with this raspberry version, the folks at Blue Sunprints provide you with 25 pre-washed and pre-treated cotton 6 x 6" cotton squares. You just pick out the objects or negatives you want to print, put it all out under the sun, and wait. When you're done exposing, you rinse the print off to unveil the wonders of raspberry-cyanotype! Wherever you placed your objects or negative, the image will appear the original raspberry color. Wherever there is open space, the cotton will turn a deep, dark hue. Adding hydrogen peroxide will instantly darken the print if you so desire. These cotton squares are 100% archival, meaning they'll last for years and years to come. After the initial rinsing, the squares can be washed without fading or loss of tonality. The final print can be embellished, sewn, quilted, and more. In fact, your imagination is the only thing limiting the artistic potential of this photographic medium. And both sides of the square can be printed on with unique images on either side. - 100% Natural and Archival Prints!
- Sun prints are made from 100% natural fibers and they are archival
- Printing Options
- You can print on both sides for unique, one-of-a-kind images
- Embellishing the Print
- The final print can be dyed, painted, drawn on, stitched... Only your imagination limits the possibilities!
- Packing Precautions
- Sun prints are light sensitive - they are carefully packaged in a black light-safe bag
- Care Instructions
- Wash printed fabrics in a non-phosphate detergent
- How to Make a Cyanotype Sun Print
- 1. Choose your designYour design choices are nearly endless. Here are some ideas: Drawings or photographs that have been printed on transparencies or acetate. Actual objects such as leaves, flowers, string, toys, letters, hands, jewelry. Experiment with photographic negatives, x-rays, cut-outs or clip art, lace, and sheer fabrics. Use your imagination - try anything! Once you have chosen your design, lay it on the cyanotype material. To hold your design in place during your sun exposure, use a piece of clear glass or Plexiglas for a tight contact or lay your design loosely if there is no wind. You can also choose to pin your design down into a piece of cardboard or foam core2. Expose your sun printFirst make a test print by exposing your design in the sun for different lengths of time on a small section of cyanotype material (use the test print chart included in the instructions as a guide). Then choose the best exposure time to get the tone you want. To print on both sides of the cyanotype material, first expose one side to the sun using your desired exposure time, then turn the material over, lay the same or different design on the second side and expose it for any time you choose. Once you have exposed your sun print, remove your design3. Rinse your sun printWhen you rinse your print in water for a few minutes (until the water runs clear) your cyanotype print will begin to appear immediately. The print's negative space will be a dark hue and your design will be the original raspberry color of the paper. If you want a darker effect, spray hydrogen peroxide on your rinsed print. The darker color will appear instantly
