Product description How to Choose a Soundbar System Read More Get the thrill of five-channel surround sound without separate rear speakers with the Mythos SSA-42 Solo Surround Array 5-Channel Passive Soundbar from Definitive Technology. Incorporating Spatial Array technology, the SSA-42 optimizes the spatial presentation of five channels to create the illusion that you are surrounded by five separate high-performance speakers. Spatial Array technology is used on the front left and right speakers as well as on the surround channels so that you get big three-dimensional imaging from both stereo and multi-channel sources. Simply connect the SSA-42 to any multi-channel receiver and powered subwoofer to enjoy enveloping surround sound without the bother of running long wires and finding places for rear speakers. The SSA-42 is sized to match 42" and larger TVs. - Balanced Dual Surround System
- The front left, right, and center channel drivers use Balanced Dual Surround System (BDSS) technology. Speaker cones usually have one support point at the circumference of the cone (called the surround) but BDSS drivers have two. This design suppresses cone resonance and promotes a longer, more linear cone motion for higher output, lower distortion, and more accurate frequency response.
- Tweeter
- The SSA-42's tweeter is a pure aluminum dome that is treated with heat to relax its crystal structure and then coated with ceramic for nuance-rich, shimmery extended highs. In order to keep the enclosure from being longer than popular-sized video displays, the front channel tweeters are positioned in front of the drivers. Developed using computer and physical modeling, the tweeter-housing geometry and venting eliminate interference.
- Aluminum Enclosure
- Like the entire Mythos Series, the SSA-42 is fabricated from aircraft-grade extruded aluminum styled to match flat-panel plasma and LCD TVs. The gloss black aluminum finish is hand-polished to a pearlescent sheen. The SSA-42 can be shelf- or wall-mounted using the included hardware. Internal baffles and braces inside the enclosure eliminate interference effects between drivers and channels for audiophile purity and maximum channel separation.
- A Component Approach
- The SSA-42 is a component loudspeaker and must be used with a 5.1 or 7.1 channel receiver (available separately). Component systems enhance flexibility, performance, and audio/video system integration. With the SSA-42, you can use the electronics that best meet your needs while reaping the benefits of single-speaker surround.
