Product description Explore Scientific combines the AR127 127mm Achromatic Refractor Telescope with the Twilight I Mount and a tripod to give you a versatile and capable observation platform. All you need is an eyepiece to begin stargazing. The optical tube assembly (OTA) features a doublet achromatic lens system which virtually eliminates chromatic and spherical aberrations. This translates to a distortion-free viewing experience with true color rendition across the entire field of view. The scope comes equipped with a heavy-duty 2" Crayford-style focuser. Unlike a traditional rack-and-pinion focuser, a Crayford-style uses a steel rod held tightly against the focus tube. This toothless friction system virtually eliminates backlash and enables ultra-fine precision focusing. The combination of aberration-free optics, precision focusing and a fast f/6.5 focal ratio make this telescope ideally suited for wide-field astrophotography and astroimaging.A mounting cradle-ring clamps over the OTA and lets the user adjust the orientation and position of the scope relative to the mount to optimize viewing comfort and balancing, while avoiding interference with other equipment. The Twilight I Altazimuth Mount is made of powder-coated aluminum, and features worm gears on both axes, and a Vixen-style dovetail saddle. The head can be tilted back-to-front to a 45° angle, and can also be set to point straight up for viewing at the zenith. Large knobs on the vertical and horizontal slow-motion control cables make adjustments easy, even with gloves on. An included wrench for adjusting the mount is easily stored in the fork arm, and held in place with a magnet. The tripod has chrome-plated steel legs that extend from 38.5" to 55.5" high, weighs 16.7 lb, and folds down to 42" for transport. It has a 42" footprint, and individually adjustable legs that are secured via thumbscrews. For further strength and vibration reduction, a spreader bar locks against the inside of the legs.
