Product description Explore Scientific's ED80 80mm f/6 Carbon Fiber APO Refractor Telescope is ideal for lunar and planetary viewing. It offers a convenient balance between aperture and weight, providing the ability to resolve bright deep-sky objects while remaining highly portable. Its small form factor produces a fast focal ratio and makes it perfect as a grab-and-go option; it can also be set up on a dual-mount rig for astrophotography/astroimaging. Its HOYA extra-low-dispersion (ED) glass, set in an apochromatic triplet lens configuration with fully multi-coated optics, produces images that are clear and bright without fringing, halos, or distortion across the entire field of view, giving you true color rendition and high contrast.Offered here as an OTA-only option for those with reliable support systems, the carbon fiber tube weighs just 5 pounds and can easily be carried by medium-sized mounts. The carbon fiber also resists the expansion and contraction common in metal tubes when moving between extreme temperatures, which can cause the internal lens elements to move out of collimation over time, affecting the scope's ability to achieve sharp focus and causing fringing and halos. Its sturdy rack-and-pinion focuser can handle heavier eyepieces and accessories without flexing, while the wide 2" drawtube ensures complete coverage of imaging sensors during astrophotography without vignetting the scene. - Optical Tube Assembly
-
- 80mm aperture
- f/6 focal ratio
- 480mm focal length
- Refractor-style optical design
- Extra low-dispersion (ED) HOYA glass reduces chromatic aberration, which causes halos and fringing, for improved color rendition and contrast
- Proprietary anti-reflection EMD (Enhanced Multi-coatings) on all optics improve light transmission, color rendition, clarity, and contrast
- Apochromatic triplet optical design virtually eliminates chromatic aberrations
- Resolution: 1.45 arc sec, Dawes Limit
- Carbon fiber optical tube reduces weight without sacrificing strength, and resists the expansion/contraction caused by temperature fluctuations which can cause internal lenses to move out of alignment and affecting image quality and focusing ability
- Mounting
-
- Optical tube assembly (OTA) only: Mount and tripod required for proper use
- Mounting ring assembly has an integrated handle provide more secure handling during setup and breakdown
- OTA placement is adjustable on mounting ring assembly for precise balancing, and finderscope and focusing knob orientation
- Vixen-style dovetail plate is compatible with a variety of mounts
- Lightweight and durable carbon fiber optical tube weighs just 5 pounds
- Observation Details
-
- Sturdy rack-and-pinion focuser resists flexing when using heavy eyepieces or imaging rigs
- Large 2" drawtube ensures complete coverage of imaging sensors to avoid vignetting for astrophotography/imaging
- 2" 90° star diagonal places head in comfortable viewing position when OTA is aimed at or near the zenith, dielectric-coated mirror limits light-loss
- 1.25" reducer adapter enables the use of smaller eyepieces and accessories
