Product description Continuing the "How to make it in FILM" series of behind-the-scenes interviews with regional, national, and international film professionals, this edition of National Geographic Filmmaker on DVD from First Light Video focuses on one of Nat Geo's own producers: Roshini Thinakaran. The 30-min program provides information about a producer's role in the filmmaking process, and features questions from a live studio audience consisting of film students at George Mason University.
Thinakaran focuses on regions devastated by war, striving to raise awareness for women who are moving on with their lives and supporting their families while rebuilding their homelands. Her long-term goal is to build schools for girls and boys in these war-torn countries she's visited, so that the children may be empowered by education. Roshini's film project, "Women at the Forefront," reveals a strong women's movement born of oppression and hardship happening all around the world. It includes her long-form documentary, "What Was Promised", which focuses on the US-led initiative to integrate Iraqi women into the Iraqi Security Forces, as well as her short-form doc, "Women & War: Liberia."
