Product description The 5th edition of Alternative Scriptwriting: Beyond the Hollywood Formula from Focal Press takes the approach of learning to write original screenplays by learning how to break the established screenwriting rules and conventions. The authors, Dancyger and Rush, expand their previous approach of writing against conventional formulas beyond just the 3-act story structure. This edition includes chapters on popular genres such as feature documentary, long-form television serials, non-linear stories, satire, fable, and docudrama. The authors also tackle character development and take you through case studies of both The Wizard of Oz and Pan's Labyrinth.
Ken Dancyger is a Professor of Film and Television at Tisch School of the Arts - New York University as well as the author of numerous books on screenwriting, editing, and production.
