Product description Get a solid grasp of the fundamentals of lighting various locations in Basic Lighting Worktext for Film and Video, a Focal Press book by Richard Ferncase. Guiding you through a series of readings, exercises and projects, the volume teaches you the fundamentals of light science. In addition to updated descriptions of equipment and tips on how to use it correctly, the book offers numerous set-ups illustrating the techniques and thought process behind proper lighting, both in the studio and on location.
Learn the basics of light and electricity in film, as well as the distinction between lighting for video and lighting for film. Discover how to identify and filter various sources, including daylight, tungsten, fluorescent, arc, HMI, and industrial discharge lamps, and learn about using both lens-covered and open-faced light fixtures. Light modifiers, such as barndoors, scrims, snoots, nets, cookies, and other accessories, are also covered, allowing you to add these to your tool set or turn your existing familiarity with them into true expertise. Expand your options by studying variations on the standard three-point lighting setup, and pick up good techniques for lighting interior day shots, exterior night scenes, and even campfires. Additionally, the book delves into high-key, low-key, and modulated value lighting. As an added bonus, Ferncase shows you how to scout locations, create lighting plans, draw up plots, and pre-rig sets. - Table of Contents
