Product description - World's Best Headphone The Focal Utopia
Designed to accommodate the needs of mixing and mastering engineers in professional, low-noise environments, the Focal Utopia Headphones employ 40mm pure beryllium drivers in an M-shaped dome design. These drivers allow Focal to forsake crossovers and passive filters for full-range audio speakers, located in the earcups, to provide an extended frequency response of 5 Hz to 50 kHz.
For the mastering engineer who demands fidelity and accuracy, these open-backed, circumaural headphones offer a realistic, natural sound stage, faithful sonic reproduction, and the clarity necessary in a professional, high-resolution headphone. This design extends to the connections, cabling, and form factor. For instance, the cable locks into the Utopia headphones by means of two locking, shielded LEMO connectors. On the other end, you'll find a 1/4" plug supplied by Neutrik. The shielded cable is constructed out of oxygen-free copper and offers a low impedance of less than 90 mOhms.
The headband has been fashioned to provide comfort without contributing anything to the sound, positive or negative. This is achieved by means of a carbon-fiber yoke with leather padding. The earcups are made of lambskin leather and microfiber fabric, and the memory foam cushions are 20mm thick for long-lasting comfort.
These headphones, made by Focal in France, provide a rigid carry case with a magnet lock. When you need to QC your masters to ensure they're free of artifacts, or when you need to hone in on the hard-to-hear details of a mix, the Utopia headphones are more than up to the task.
