Product description How to Use ND Filters: Tips, Tricks, and Special Effects Read More This Formatt Hitech Firecrest Graduated Neutral Density Blender 1.2 Cinema Filter is compatible with filter holders or matte boxes that can accommodate 4mm-thick, 4 x 5.65" rectangular filters in the landscape orientation. It is densest at its top edge with up to a 1.2 density that tapers to clear at its bottom edge. This filter's density range corresponds to a reduction of light from entering a lens by up to four stops. By placing this filter within a compatible filter holder or matte box, a graduated darkening of a scene can be achieved. You are then able to suppress specific areas within a frame such as very bright skies, while providing a similar, but reduced effect in other regions of the frame that can benefit from a more moderate reduction in exposure, such as reflecting water or sand.
The design of this filter's Firecrest coatings has been optimized for use with digital sensors to promote nearly flat attenuation of ultraviolet, visible, and infrared light while gradually darkening a scene. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur in a recording where visible light is progressively blocked, but infrared light is allowed to pass through. 15 layers of Firecrest coatings sandwiched between two layers of Schott Superwhite glass provide a high level of neutrality through the visible and infrared spectrums which helps to prevent color casts. By incorporating Schott Superwhite glass in this graduated neutral density filter's construction, clarity and color fidelity are enhanced while its coated surfaces are protected from scratches or other damages that could otherwise result from direct contact.
