Product description The Gefen EXT-USB-400FON USB 2.0 Extender provides extension capabilities for any device or USB application that requires a peripheral connection over a distance, such as a USB camera, USB hard drive, keyboard or mouse. Supporting all USB 2.0 devices, it extends up to 1640' (500m) using fiber optic cables, allowing you to place a remote USB sensor at a great distance from the sender unit. The unit is housed in a metal box to provide better RF shielding. With an EMI-free solution, the extender can enable the use of USB devices for applications at remote locations where conditions prohibit or restrict access by people e.g. harsh environments, medical facilities, and oilrigs. The receiver end of the extender is a USB 2.0 4-port hub. The sender unit is connected to the source using the supplied USB short cable, and USB peripherals are connected to the receiver unit at the remote end. Two LC-terminated multimode fiber optic cables are used to link the sender to the receiver. The receiver unit can be powered by a 5V DC power supply whereas the sender unit can be powered by the USB bus. The USB 2.0 extender is fully backward compliant with compatibility for USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 specifications as certified by the USB Implementer's Forum. It provides optical isolation from over-voltage and static electricity, and supports both low-speed and high-speed USB devices. While the extender supports express devices with a speed of up to 480mb/s, it is also compatible with other USB peripherals used in devices like PlayStation and WII and supports USB using all operating systems including Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. - Provides extension capabilities for any device or USB application that requires a connection over a long distance, such as a USB camera, USB hard drive, keyboard, or mouse
