Product description The 30TB LTO-8 Ultrium RW Data Cartridge from HP has been tested to meet demands for high levels of reliability when restoring data. It offers a high storage density, ease of management, and scalable storage and backup performance with an archival life of up to 30 years. Uncompressed, it offers a storage capacity of 12TB and read speeds of up to 360 MB/s, but thanks to a 2.5:1 compression factor, it can deliver a storage capacity of 30TB and read speeds of up to 700 MB/s, or 2.7TB per hour. This media is rewritable, as compared to WORM (write once, read many), and to help keep your data secure, features FIPS 140-2 Level 1 and AES 256-bit encryption. Write-on labels are included in the box and protection is provided by a limited lifetime warranty and 24/7 toll-free phone support. Capacity & Performance - HPE LTO-8 Ultrium can write or read data at up to 2.7TB per hour, storing, encrypting, and protecting up to 30TB on a single cartridge, making it suitable for large-scale, 24/7, mission-critical IT environments (assumes 2.5:1 compression).
- An 85% increase in the number of tracks and an 8% increase in bit density has permitted an increase in capacity from 15TB for LTO-7 to 30TB to LTO-8 and from 3584 tracks for LTO-6 to 6656 tracks for 30TB LTO-8 Ultrium cartridges (assuming 2.5:1 compression).
- HPE LTO Ultrium cartridge memory chip delivers fast access time and enhanced media monitoring.
- Helps to ensure that restores take place with fewer media failures and backups are less disrupted.
Reliability - Tape is more reliable than an Enterprise SATA drive, with a BER of 1 x 1019 for LTO-8 versus 1 x 1015 for Enterprise SATA HDDs. That's a difference in reliability of four orders of magnitude - tape is 10,000 times more reliable than an Enterprise SATA HDD.
- The estimated data loss over 10 years for a 1EB (exabyte) archive is 1.1PB (petabytes) for a hard drive, as compared to only 7.4TB for tape.
- A 'smart grabber' mechanism and mechanical interlock help prevent the leader pin from being pulled inside the tape housing. Sensors detect the proper connection and prevent leader loss that would ruin the tape, allowing for a simplified tape path to reduce the wear, tear, and build-up of debris (important in automation).
- HPE brand qualification test procedures (load/unload, shoeshine, drop testing, and environmental stress testing) go beyond what is required for the LTO Ultrium logo. This helps ensure greater reliability for restoring your data.
- HPE warrants LTO Ultrium cartridges for an archival life of up to 30 years. This helps ensure businesses can meet the ever-increasing demands of regulation for data retention and archiving.
