Product description Compatible with all Z-Workstations, the 512GB SATA Solid State Drive from HP is an SSD with a 512GB capacity, a 2.5" form factor, a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a sustained read speed of up to 500 MB/s, and a sustained write speed of up to 260 MB/s. It will help improve system performance and allow you to store and quickly access files such as movies, photos, music, documents, and more. Since SSDs have no moving parts, they do not need to spin up or mechanically seek files like a traditional hard drive. They are more resistant to damage from bumps and drops, receive less wear and tear due to the absence of read and write heads, and operate with faster data transfer speeds. This SSD also operates with reduced noise as compared to a spinning hard drive and its reduced cooling requirements allow the system it is installed in to maintain lower fan speeds. Included with this SSD is a 3.5" mounting bracket, allowing it to be mounted in 3.5" drive bays. It may also be mounted in optical bays through the use of separately sold brackets. - Higher overall performance than 15K HDDs based on random IOPs, sustained reads and sustained writes
- Lower systems level acoustical emissions than systems with HDDs, especially 15K rpm HDDs
- More rugged than HDDs with respect to shock and vibration
- Typical wall power savings relative to a 15K drive is ~10W per drive (based on drive idle power and power supply at 85% efficiency. Active drive power deltas are slightly larger)
- Lower system maintenance because there is no need to defragment the drive
- TRIM
- SSDs use the TRIM function to help improve endurance. The TRIM command is focused on maintaining MLC SSD write performance by erasing no longer used (released) logical blocks (such as files deleted from the Windows recycle bin) from the SSD automatically in the background. Most configurations with Windows 8 and 7, including single SSD, RAID 0, and RAID 1, will provide support for TRIM. Optional controllers, including the SAS controllers supported on Workstations, do not provide support for TRIM when used in a RAID configuration, but do enable TRIM in non-RAID configurations. For additional information regarding TRIM support, please contact HP technical support
- Warranty
- HP SSD drives have a limited 1-year warranty, or the remainder of the warranty of the HP Workstation, up to three years (whichever is longer)
