Product description With the aim to bring your film camera into the digital age, the I'm Back PRO is a unique digital back specifically designed to fit most 35mm SLR cameras. The I'm Back takes the place of the rear film door on your camera and incorporates a digital sensor to enable you to shoot digitally using a film camera and any lens. Rather than simply placing an image sensor behind the lens, this device uses a specialized depth of field adapter, or focusing screen, where the image is projected onto from the lens, in order to eliminate crop factors despite the image sensor being smaller than full-frame. Recording the image is a 16MP 1/2.3" CMOS sensor placed beneath this focusing screen, which affords high-resolution JPEG or raw stills along with up to UHD 4K video recording at 30p. This sensor also offers a sensitivity range from ISO 100-1600 and provides automatic white balance and shutter speed settings.
The back is physically attached to the film camera using the included Universal Cover, which lets you position the sensor and focusing screen assembly in place with a variety of camera types for accurate recording. Additionally, the I'm Back incorporates a rear 2.0" capacitive touchscreen, has built-in Wi-Fi for syncing with a mobile device, and tethers with the film camera via PC sync for triggering each exposure. It is powered via one 18650 rechargeable lithium-ion battery and a USB Type-C port permits transferring files, updating firmware, and charging the battery inside the back. - I'm Back Concept
- I'm Back allows you to use your 35mm film SLR camera to produce digital files. This unique digital back replaces the camera's rear film door and has an integrated depth of field adapter/focusing screen along with a 16MP CMOS image sensor. By using the focusing screen, which is the same size as a frame of film, there is no crop factor associated with the camera despite it having a 1/2.3" sensor. The image sensor is placed beneath the focusing screen assembly in order to record the projected full-frame image.
The I'm Back can be attached to most 35mm film SLRs using the included Universal Back and its 1/4"-20 screw, which allows for positioning the screen and sensor to match the specific camera in use. Camera-specific backs are also optionally available for a straightforward fit dedicated to the certain camera in use. - Imaging Capabilities
- The I'm Back incorporates a 16MP 1/2.3" CMOS sensor, which can record with JPEG files or black and white .RAW files. It has a sensitivity range from ISO 100-1600 and offers automatic shutter speed adjustment within a 1/500-15 sec range based on the aperture and ISO selection. In use, the 35mm camera must be set to the bulb shutter speed setting and the I'm Back is tethered to the camera via PC sync. For each exposure, the camera's shutter must be held open until the I'm Back beeps twice to signal the exposure is complete. In addition to stills shooting, video recording is possible at up to UHD 4K30p, as well as 2K60p/30p, Full HD 60p/30p, and HD 120p/60p/30p.
- I'm Back Design
-
- Due to the exposed design of the focusing screen/depth of field adapter, three plastic replacement screens are included in case one becomes scratched or damaged.
- Built-in 2.0" capacitive touchscreen LCD is featured for on-back live view shooting as well as menu navigation.
- Integrated Wi-Fi connectivity pairs with iOS and Android mobile devices for remote live view shooting and settings control.
- Images are recorded to one microSD/SDHC/SDXC memory card, with a capacity up to 64GB.
- The I'm Back is powered via one rechargeable lithium-ion 18650 battery and in-camera charging is possible via the USB Type-C port.
