Product description The IK Multimedia Precision Comp - Limiter (Download) is a dynamic processor plug-in based on classic British hardware used in the 1970s for recording, mixing, mastering, post-production, and broadcast. The hardware became popular because even when pushed to its limits, it would still apply very gentle compression that preserved the musicality of the track.
The software algorithm is designed to emulate the diode network, class-A circuitry, and custom input and output transformers that gave the original hardware its bold and unique sonic character. Both the compressor component and the limiter component can be engaged or disengaged independently. The two components can be utilized in conjunction with one another for a wide variety of dynamic effects. It is suitable to add weight to single tracks or to place larger groups of tracks on a mix bus or the stereo master to set them within a precise dynamic range.
The software user interface of the the compressor includes an input gain stage control (not found in the original hardware), so you can send more signal to the processor. It also includes virtual control knobs for the threshold, recovery time, gain, and compression ratio. The limiter features controls for the limiting threshold, recovery time, and output level.
The left and right channels can be linked. It can be operated in stereo mode or Mid-side mode wherein the mid channel is the mono sum of the sound stage and the side channel is the difference between the left and right channels. A reset switch can be used to restore the original settings.
The plug-in is fully compatible with native 32- and 64-bit applications on both Mac OS X (Universal Binary) and Windows (XP/Vista/7/8) computers. It supports VST, RTAS, AAX, and Audio Units plug-in formats. It can also be used with the T-RackS CS standalone application (sold separately). Table of Contents
