Product description To enable the capture of brilliant images of coral, pygmy seahorses, and other sea life at depths as great as 200', Ikelite offers this dedicated Underwater Housing for your Canon EOS 60D digital SLR camera. An Ikelite bulkhead sync connector and built-in TTL circuitry allow for the attachment of optional, external strobes. Ikelite DS flash units can be used in TTL or manual exposure mode, while third-party strobes will work in manual mode.
Ergonomic mechanical controls, including push-buttons, knurled knobs/dials, and levers, afford access to virtually all camera functions. Built for durability, the enclosure is made in the USA from corrosion-resistant polycarbonate, which is clear to allow you to monitor the O-ring seal and the camera. An included aluminum tray with dual quick-release grips affords improved balance and handling, while offering a way to attach optional lighting arms.
The housing ships without a required lens port, and accepts various, interchangeable dome and flat ports for a broad array of zoom, macro, and wide-angle lenses. For full compatibility details, see the Port Chart. - Construction Details
-
- Depth rating: 200'
- Made by hand in the USA from corrosion-resistant polycarbonate
- Clear to allow you to monitor the O-ring seal and maintain a full view of the camera
- Spring-loaded latches on lid ensure secure closure
- Strobe Connection and Operation
-
- Use of an optional, external strobe will be extremely helpful once you descend further than 15-20' underwater, except when shooting with color filters on very clear days with bright sunlight
- Strobe restores hues that get absorbed by water, so your images are vibrant, accurate, and natural-looking
- Try to stay no more than 3-4' away from subject to preserve natural colors in images
- Ikelite bulkhead with TTL circuitry enables reliable electrical triggering of external strobes via sync cords
- Ikelite DS strobes are operable in iTTL or manual exposure mode
- Third-party strobes are operable in manual mode only
- Compatible with the following Ikelite DS strobes: DS50 (above serial number 70000), DS51, DS125 (above serial number 5000), DS160, DS161, and DS200
- Hard-wired sync connection produces more accurate exposure than that which would be possible via wireless or fiber-optic connection to slave strobes
- Unlike a fiber-optic cable connection, the sync cord method does not require the camera's built-in flash to fire, so it conserves battery life, speeds up recycle times, and prevents heat buildup inside the housing
- TTL circuitry transmits direct electrical impulses from your camera to your strobes, precisely adjusting flash output and eliminating signal interference, inconsistent exposures, and false triggering
- Make exposure adjustments directly via the controls at the back of the housing
- Tweak your TTL exposure or take full manual control without taking your hand off the housing
- Adjust your TTL exposure compensation setting from -2 to +2 in half-stop increments, and choose from 8 manual power settings in half-stop increments
- Controls and Handling
-
- Mechanical controls, including push-buttons, knurled knobs/dials, and levers, provide access to all camera functions except for the depth-of-field preview button
- Over-sized knob smoothly engages Ikelite's universal zoom gear system
- Includes an aluminum tray and dual grips that afford improved handling and provide attachment points for lighting arms
- An additional lighting arm or other lightweight accessory can be connected to the housing's aluminum 1/4"-20 top mount
- Housing body alone has slightly negative buoyancy in freshwater; the overall buoyancy of the system varies depending on your choice of lens and port
- Lens Port System
-
- Ships without a required lens port
- Accepts various, interchangeable dome and flat ports with 4 locking latches for an array of different zoom, macro, and wide-angle lenses
- For full compatibility details, see the Port Chart linked above
- Two sets of zoom gears are provided: one for the majority of popular zoom lenses with large diameters of 2.8-3.0", and another for lenses with smaller diameters of 2.8" or less
- Both sets of gears are easy to install and require no modification to the lens
