Product description The JMR Mac Pro PCIe to Thunderbolt 2 Desktop Enclosure houses your Apple Mac Pro (late 2013) to enhance it with four PCIe slots. To deliver this feature, the enclosure comes with two independent Thunderbolt 2 bridge circuits that drive the four PCIe slots with 20 Gb/s of bandwidth. Your Mac Pro connects to these PCIe slots by utilizing two of its three available Thunderbolt 2 circuits. This JMR desktop enclosure supports full-height, full-length PCIe cards, and each of the PCIe slots operates mechanically at x16 and electrically at x4. You can use the four PCIe slots to add Fiber-channel adapters, RAID controller cards, 10GbE networking cards, video capture cards, audio interface cards, dedicated graphics cards, RED Rocket-X cards, and more for your Apple Mac Pro.
Once installed within the enclosure, the Mac Pro's on/off power button and I/O ports are controlled via a pass-through design. JMR has outfitted this enclosure with an I/O panel that can be mounted to the front or back of the case. This panel features two USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port, one Gigabit Ethernet port, one mic port, and one headphone port. Aside from these ports, four 20 Gbps Thunderbolt 2 ports are available, so you may daisy-chain other Thunderbolt devices to your Apple Mac Pro.
The JMR desktop enclosure sports a forced-air cooling solution that keeps your Mac and PCIe cards running smoothly. For powering the enclosure and PCIe cards, a 460W power supply is on board. Furthermore, the desktop enclosure can be rack mounted with an optional bracket kit, occupying 4 RU of cabinet space. Dual Dedicated Thunderbolt 2 Circuits - The four PCIe slots are powered using two independent Thunderbolt 2 bridge circuits, each of which runs at 20 Gb/s. One Thunderbolt 2 bridge drives two of the PCIe slots, while the other Thunderbolt 2 bridge circuit powers the other two. When connecting to a Mac Pro, users will need to use two of the Lightning XQ's Thunderbolt 2 ports and two Thunderbolt 2 cables, each of which will connect two one of the Mac Pro's Thunderbolt 2 ports, with two total ports being used
- So that your bandwidth may be maximized, please ensure that each Thunderbolt 2 cable is connected to a separate Thunderbolt 2 bridge circuit on your Mac Pro. The 2013 Mac Pro comes equipped with six Thunderbolt 2 ports that are powered by three Thunderbolt 2 bridge circuits, or two ports per circuit. If multiple peripherals are connected to one circuit, then the bandwidth will be shared. Also, please bear in mind that each grouping of two PCIe slots on the Lightning XQ share one Thunderbolt 2 circuit. If only one card is installed on a dedicated circuit, it will receive the full 20 Gb/s bandwidth of that circuit, but if a second card is installed, the bandwidth will be shared, with each card receiving 10 Gb/s. Likewise, if only one card is installed on each dedicated circuit, they will both receive the full 20 Gb/s bandwidth of each circuit. Additionally, if only one Thunderbolt 2 cable is used to connect this system to your Mac Pro, then only two of the four PCIe slots will be available
Common Applications - SAS/SATA host bus adapters and RAID controller cards
- Fiber channel host bus adapters and RAID controller cards
- 10GbE network adapter cards
- Graphical Processing Units (GPUs), RED Rocket-X cards
