Product description Bundled together by B&H for your convenience, the Lectrosonics Portable Digital Recorder Kit is designed to give you everything you need to record voice-audio remotely in a high-quality, digital manner—doing so with a portable digital recorder and a neutral-colored, ear-mounted microphone. The recorder captures audio on SDHC cards at the broadcast standard (24-bit/48 kHz) and outputs BWF files. Time-code jamming via the 5-pin LEMO connection allows you to sync audio with video in a relatively straightforward and convenient manner; as such, this kit is suitable for actors on set, interviewers in the field, and other people/scenarios requiring free-roaming audio recording for video purposes. The recorder offers a servo-bias preamp, especially useful for the provided Lectrosonics HM172 omnidirectional earset microphone, as it bestows the power necessary to run the mic. Furthermore, the recorder sports a TA5M input jack, a 3.5mm output jack, a durable machined-aluminum construction, and a compact design for hiding it on an actor or a broadcaster's body. It runs on AAA lithium batteries. The mic, on the other hand, sports a TA5F connection point, making it eminently compatible with the recorder. It also provides an omnidirectional polar pattern, as well as an SPL of 125 dB, a frequency response of 50 Hz to 20 kHz, a low-profile design, and a flexible boom and earpiece. As such, the microphone is quite suitable for lecturing and theatrical applications, while the recorder excels in recording the resulting audio. - Lectrosonics Portable Digital Recorder
- Hands-on Review: Lectrosonics Portable Digital Recorder
Designed for capturing high-quality digital audio that can synchronize with timecode, the PDR from Lectrosonics is a digital recorder which captures industry-standard 24-bit/48 kHz audio in WAV (BWF) formats. It is particularly useful in situations when using a wireless microphone is impractical, such as when distance to a wireless receiver is too far, or when the quality of wireless recording simply won't cut it. The PDR stores its recordings on microSDHC cards, and accepts audio via its TA5M 5-pin male connection point. An LCD and on-board keypad allow for quick and intuitive operation of the unit's controls. Via simple controls, the PDR's input can be adjusted to record at both mic- and line-level sources, utilizing a Lectrosonics' servo-bias preamp for both 2 and 4V lavalier microphones. You can also monitor directly from the unit through headphones or any compatible line-level device, so long as it boasts a 3.5mm connection point. To synchronize time code with video and film production, a 5-pin LEMO jack is provided. This ensures that you can easily align its audio in the video timeline of any editing software, and gives you the ability to tether to a camera for the purpose of capturing a high-quality backup recording to boot. At 2.4 x 2.1 x 0.7", the PDR is easy to conceal in costumes, and can easily be left out of sight on a set to capture ambiance, as well as environmental and location sound. Its machined aluminum construction is durable. - Key Features at a Glance

Designed to mount comfortably to your ear, the HM172 from Lectrosonics is an omnidirectional microphone with a 5-pin TA5F connector suitable for use with Lectrosonics transmitters. Its neutral profile and comfortable, out-of-the-way design renders the microphone useful for many applications, such as lectures, theatrical presentations, and broadcast studio operations.
With a frequency response of 50 Hz to 20 kHz and the ability to withstand sound pressure levels of 125 dB, the microphone is aptly suited for the human voice. It operates at a bias voltage of 2 to 9V.
Its cable is designed to run behind your neck for better concealment, while a perspiration ring on its boom helps keep the capsule dry in many situations. Both the earpiece and the boom are flexible, allowing you to comfortably position the microphone to garner the maximum amount of gain while simultaneously minimizing breath noise.
Included with the microphone are two windscreens and a cable retention clip. Also provided is a replaceable HF peak cap to curtail energy at the highest points of the frequency range, thus helping with excessive sibilant information and other vocal mishaps. - Key Features
