Product description The ThinkStation P720 Tower Workstation from Lenovo is a powerful performer for professionals with intensive data processing needs and offers fast processing, massive storage options, and parallel-processing capabilities. Its design includes Flex Trays that hold up to two drives, as well as Tri-Channel Cooling for enhanced reliability. The system is powered by a 2.3 GHz Intel Xeon Gold 5118 12-core processor and if you need more power, the CPU can deliver extra performance by increasing the clock speed up to 3.2 GHz utilizing Intel's Turbo Boost technology.
The 16GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 ECC Registered RAM allows the computer to run multiple applications simultaneously and also to quickly access frequently used files and programs. The current memory configuration is two 8GB modules with an additional four slots available for memory upgrades, making for a total of six 288-pin DIMM slots. As this RAM features ECC technology, it is able to help detect and correct the most common kinds of internal data corruption. This RAM is also registered and registered memory modules, also known as buffered memory modules, place less electrical loads on the memory controller and allow single systems to remain stable with more memory modules than they would have otherwise.
For storage of your files, a 512GB Opal PCIe M.2 SSD offers quick access to your data. If you want to add external storage drives or other peripherals, the ThinkStation P720 features eight USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one of which provides 11W of charging power, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, and two PS/2 ports. For users who wish to add additional components to the drive bays, there is one additional M.2 slot, two internal 3.5" drive bays that support 3.5" and 2.5" SATA/SAS drives, and two external 5.25" flex bays. While one of these is used by the DVD±RW drive, the other can support a second optical drive, a 3.5" or 2.5" SATA drive, a USB 3.0 card reader, an eSATA or Thunderbolt port, and more.
No integrated or dedicated graphics controllers are included with this system, allowing users to select a dedicated graphics card of their choice. NVS 310, 315, 510, and 810, as well as Quadro P400, P600, P1000, P2000, P4000, P5000, and P6000 graphics cards are supported. Whether you are listening to music, watching a movie, or playing a game, the integrated Realtek ALC662 audio controller outputs high definition audio and delivers higher fidelity than standard audio controllers.

- While this ThinkStation P720 does have twelve RAM slots, only six are supported by the single CPU configuration. Each of the six slots can support up to 32GB of RAM, for a maximum of 192GB. Access to the other six memory slots can be granted by installing a second Xeon processor.

- A SuperMulti DVD±RW Burner is included for reading from and writing to a variety of CD and DVD media.
- Gigabit Ethernet
- Integrated Intel i219LM and i210AT Gigabit Ethernet controllers allows for Internet access when connected to a router, modem, or network switch. Wake on LAN is supported for both ports. Additionally, optional PCIe Ethernet or wireless adapters are available.

- The ThinkStation P720 features eight USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one of which provides 11W of power, and two USB 2.0 Type-A ports that will allow you to connect external peripherals such as hard drives, printers, and memory card readers. At 5 Gb/s, USB 3.0 transfers data up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0, which operates at 480 Mb/s. USB 3.0's high-speed transfer rate helps to significantly reduce data transfer times, meaning you spend less time waiting and more time focusing on the task at hand.
- 9-In-1 Card Reader
- The integrated 9-in-1 card reader supports SD/SDHC/SDXC, microSD/SDHC/SDXC (with an adapter), miniSD/SDHC, RS-MMC, MMC, MMCmicro, MMCmobile, MMCplus, and M2 (Memory Stick Micro) cards.
- 5.25" Flex Bays
- Two 5.25" flex bays support up to two half-height optical drives, up to two 5.25" slim ODD cages for 9mm optical drives, one 5.25" slim ODD and HDD cage for a 9mm optical drive and 3.5" or 2.5" SATA drive, one Front Access Storage Enclosure for a 3.5" or 2.5" SATA drive, and one Flex module for one or more of the following: 9mm optical, 15-in-1 USB 3.0 card reader, front eSATA, front Thunderbolt, and 4-digit diagnostic display.
Note: Only one can be supported from the 15-in-1 reader, Thunderbolt, and 4-digit display. - M.2 Slots
- Up to nine M.2 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSDs are supported via two integrated M.2 slots, one full-height/full-length PCIe 3.0 x16 adapter that supports four M.2 slots, and up to three PCIe 3.0 x4 adapters, each of which supports one M.2 slot
- Expansion Slots
- The system is equipped with two 75W PCIe 3.0 x16 slots (full-height, full-length, double-width), one 25W PCIe 3.0 x8 slot (full-height, full-length, open-ended), one 25W PCIe 3.0 x4 slot (full-height, half-length, open-ended), and one 25W PCI slot (full-height, full-length). Adding a second Xeon processor would provide access to an additional 75W PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (full-height, full-length).
