Product description This Large Basic Leveling Head II with 1/4"-20 Mount from Linhof is designed to maintain a camera's horizontal axis on a tripod while capturing a sequence of images for the purpose of creating a panorama. It is particularly useful for cylindrical panoramas where their individual component images are obtained by incrementally rotating the camera, and must remain uniformly level to avoid the appearance of slanting upwards or downwards after they are aligned. Cylindrical panoramas that initially appear to be slanted can require extensive cropping to obtain a parallel top and bottom. This can result in a dramatic loss of picture area and apparent height, causing unexpected as well as unwanted changes to image composition and content. By incorporating this leveling head within a support system intended for the process of creating panoramas, the potential area of the final image is maximized, helping to preserve creative intent.
The Basic Leveling Head II with 1/4"-20 Mount has a load capacity of 22 lb and is compatible with tripods or support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. Loosening its control handle allows the leveling head's rubberized, non-slip platform to be rolled left or right, by up to 17°. Misaligned horizontal orientations relative to a panoramic subject can then be precisely compensated for, preventing slanted images.
Cameras or panoramic head components with 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 female accessory threads can be placed on the Large Basic Leveling Head II with 1/4"-20 Mount after first connecting a separately-available Linhof 003673 Panorama Plate with Quickfix I Quick-Lock Tripod Connector and Adapter Plate, or a Linhof 003674 Panorama Plate with Dovetail Guide and Dovetail Track Plate when used with their 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 reducer bushings. When installed between a camera and this leveling head, these panorama plates provide the ability to rotate a camera 360° according to clearly visible hatch marks engraved at 5° intervals. Two corner-facing, adjacent bubble levels built into either panorama plate help to ensure that this Large Basic Leveling Head II is properly angled to provide a camera with a horizontal rotation axis. Alternatively, this head may be used with a panoramic plate or device that features a 1/4"-20 female accessory thread. -
