Product description This Large Leveling Head II from Linhof is designed to allow a camera to be incrementally rotated on a horizontal axis for capturing a sequence of images that are intended to be aligned and merged into a single panoramic photo. It features a built-in Linhof panorama plate with an integrated Linhof Quickfix I Tripod Connector, which is a panning platform with a cam-lock quick release adapter. The panorama plate with Quickfix I tripod connector provides the ability to rotate a camera 360° according to clearly visible hatch marks engraved at 5° intervals. Depending on which camera and lens is placed on this leveling head, as well as the lens's focal length, those interval hatch marks can be used to ensure that images within a sequence sufficiently overlap to form a panorama. Cameras or panoramic head components with 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 female accessory threads can be placed on the panorama plate with Quickfix I tripod connector using the included Linhof 003875 Quickfix I Adapter Plate.
The leveling head has a load capacity of 22 lb and is compatible with tripods or support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. Loosening its control handle allows the leveling head's panorama plate to be rolled left or right, by up to 17°.
Two built-in corner-facing, adjacent bubble levels help to ensure that this leveling head is properly angled to provide a camera with a horizontal rotation axis. This is particularly useful for cylindrical panoramas where their individual component images must remain uniformly level to avoid the appearance of slanting upwards or downwards after they are aligned. Cylindrical panoramas that initially appear to be slanted can require extensive cropping to obtain parallel top and bottom sides. This can result in a dramatic loss of picture area and apparent height, causing unexpected as well as unwanted changes to image composition and content. By incorporating this leveling head within a support system configured for the process of creating panoramas, misaligned horizontal orientations relative to a panoramic subject can be precisely compensated for, preventing slanted images and maximizing their potential area, helping to preserve creative intent.
This leveling head further benefits the use of Linhof Master Technika-series cameras when combined with a separately-available Linhof 003878 Quickfix I Adapter Plate for 35mm Cameras. When placed on the leveling head's tripod connector, a Quickfix I adapter plate for 35mm cameras can be adjusted to help maximize the ability to open the camera's baseboard throughout the leveling head's range of movement. -
