Product description The Link Electronics PDR-870 is a high performance Closed Caption Decoder for the NTSC and PAL systems. It is capable of processing and displaying all standard closed caption format transmissions--including the EIA-608 Extended Character Set--in the manner of a typical closed caption decoder. - Encoding
- Encoding can be NTSC, PAL, on field 1 or field 2 of line 21; this encoding works well with the old system and with updated FCC specifications.
- Data Channels
- Nine standard data channels are supported by the PDR-870: Captions channels 1 thru 4 (CC1-CC4), Text channels 1 thru 4 (T1-T4) and Extended Data Services (XDS).
- V-Chip
- This unit is V-Chip compatible, therefore does not let the closed caption signal interfere with the V chip information.
- Auto Detect
- This unit will auto detect the incoming television system signal and adjust to the correct parameters.
- Test
- A test function is actuated with a front panel button; this test signal places a text message on line 21 to confirm proper operation.
- Front Panel Operation
- The various decoding channels are selectable by four front-panel toggle switches. Additional front-panel toggle switches provide NTSC/PAL video standard selection, drop-shadow or box character keying, and internal/external video. The internal video function allows the PDR-870 to generate its own video as a medium for producing open captions.
- Rackmountable
- This unit was designed to fit in a 1 rack unit space.
