Product description

Lumicon put together this Lunar and Planetary Filter Set to give you the most popular and useful filters for lunar and planetary astronomical observation and imaging. The kit includes the #15 Dark Yellow, #25 Red, #47 Violet, and #58 Green filters — all in the common 1.25" size to fit the most popular barrel diameter eyepieces and accessories.
  • Dark Yellow #15 1.25" Filter This Lumicon Dark Yellow #15 1.25" filter is commonly used for an even more noticeable increase in contrast than the #12 and is ideal for scenes where it is important to differentiate the green tonal values in both celestial observation and photography. It produces even greater blue suppression and leads to a further increase in the effects of darker yellow filters. For planetary observing, color filters bring out the most detail because planets are naturally colorful. Different colors bring out different details of the planet you are viewing. Always remember that you want to use the darkest filter your telescope will handle. Most small telescopes up to about 5" in aperture use the light colors. The larger the telescope, the darker your filter you can use. Color filters can sometimes be used in conjunction with a Neutral Density or Polarizing filter to aid in glare reduction. The more you use your filters the more you appreciate them and their affect. The 1.25" filters employ industry-standard 1.125" x 42 tpi threads (except for Questar/Brandon, which use a thread pattern unique to Questar). The 48 mm filters employ industry-standard 48 x 0.75 mm threading, which thread into 2" eyepieces. All larger filters use the given size with 0.75 mm pitch (e.g. a 72 mm Minus Violet filter has 72 x 0.75 mm threads).
    • Especially useful for clear contrast between blue sky with clouds and foreground
    • Enhances landscapes, marine scenes and aerial photography with more dramatic effects than Yellow 8
  • Red #25 1.25" Filter Compared to the Lumicon #23A Light Red filter, this Lumicon #25 Red 1.25" Filter darkens the reds even more near the yellow tones in the spectrum, as its transparency only begins in the orange-red region. It produces dramatic effects and extreme tonal separation for graphic effects. All larger filters use the given size with 0.75 mm pitch (e.g. a 72 mm Minus Violet filter has 72 x 0.75 mm threads).
    • Stronger than an Light Red (23A)
    • Clouds are dramatically improved almost to the mood of a thunderstorm; Darkens blue sky creating dramatic contrast between sky and clouds
    • Use with Polarizer for dramatic black and white effects
    • It is more effective in cutting through haze, and moonlight effects are easily accomplished
    • Used in scientific photography
    • Excellent copying filter for blueprints
    UPC: 791512973967
  • Violet #47 1.25" Filter This Lumicon #47 1.25" Violet Filter produces the same results as the #38 Blue filter only more intensely. Therefore, it has the same application. Its stronger effect makes it a mood creating filter photographing in fog or when aerial perspective is to be accentuated. For planetary observing, color filters bring out the most detail because planets are naturally colorful. Different colors bring out different details of the planet you are viewing. Always remember that you want to use the darkest filter your telescope will handle. Most small telescopes up to about 5" in aperture use the light colors. All larger filters use the given size with 0.75 mm pitch (e.g. a 72 mm Minus Violet filter has 72 x 0.75 mm threads).
    • Tonal separation in the photography of objects is increased more than with an Blue filter
    • "Mood" creating filter
    • Filter factor is 6 (+2 2/3 stops)
  • Dark Green #58 1.25" Filter The Lumicon #58 Dark Green 1.25" Filter differs from the #56 Green filter primarily because of its increased red attenuation. For example, a red roof or red flowers will become even darker, as will red lips and a dark tan. This filter is ideal for nature photography. In object photography, it is good for even darker reds and even lighter greens. For planetary observing, color filters bring out the most detail because planets are naturally colorful. Different colors bring out different details of the planet you are viewing. Always remember that you want to use the darkest filter your telescope will handle. • Especially useful for additional contrast between blue sky with clouds and foreground
