Product description The PMD-661 MKIII from Marantz Professional is a handheld, solid-state recorder suitable for broadcast, electronic news gathering (ENG), DSLR video, sound effects capture, forensic applications, dictation scenarios, or indeed, any application which might necessitate both the capture of audio and the password protection thereof. Its rugged build quality gives you a built-in stereo condenser microphone array, as well as two XLR inputs and an unbalanced 3.5mm line in. In addition to its built-in speaker, the PMD-661 MKIII sports unbalanced RCA jacks for connecting to compatible devices. The device records audio in multiple formats. Capturing WAV files, it can operate at sample rates and resolutions of up to 24-bit/96 kHz, giving you studio-grade digital audio. MP3s are recorded in bit rates between 32 and 320 kbps. The device records to SD or SDHC cards, the latter of which can provide the unit with up to 32GB of space to store recorded material. With four AA batteries, the PMD-661 MKIII can record for up to six hours at a clip. A 128 x 64 dot matrix OLED screen affords easy-to-read settings in most recording and playback scenarios. You can easily backup your files to computer via USB connection—and what's more, you can password-protect your files so that access to them can be granted on a need-to-know basis. In this manner, MP3 files can be encrypted to MPS files, while the WAV format can be encrypted to WAS. A four-digit password will then be generated. This is particularly suitable for sensitive situations such as surveillance, law enforcement, and court reporting, in which the safety of audio is paramount. Included with the recorder is a heavy-duty case for transporting the device, as well as an external, omnidirectional boundary microphone useful in recording round-table meetings. - Features at a Glance
