Product description Representing the midrange in the series for the perfect combination of power and portability, the Meade Instruments LX90-10ACF 10" f/10 Catadioptric GoTo Telescope provides users with a competent observational platform to view the Moon, planets, and deep-sky objects, all packed into a compact form factor. It utilizes their Advanced Coma-Free (ACF) catadioptric light path to reduce color fringing and off-axis comas to enable it to clearly resolve dim deep-sky objects and easily split binary stars with tack-sharp clarity. Complementing the ACF system is their Ultra-High Transmission Coatings (UHTC) system, which improves light transmission through the entire light path across the whole visible spectrum. A combination of high-transmittance lens coatings and highly reflective mirror coatings boosts image brightness while minimizing internal and external light loss and diffraction. The next generation of their iconic GoTo system, the AudioStar hand controller, is packed with over 30,000 objects and features audio commentary on select celestial objects to give users information, history, and mythology through its onboard speaker. Multiple assisted alignment procedures help to get users observing faster, aided by an onboard 16-channel GPS module for precise setup and alignment. There is also an option for guided tours to be generated by the AudioStar, or to be custom-made by the user, downloaded to the controller, and uploaded to the internet and shared. An aluminum dual-tine alt-az fork mount carries the optical tube assembly (OTA) and runs on eight user-supplied C-cell batteries for off-the-grid observation sessions. To get users out and observing immediately, Meade includes a low-power eyepiece, a 90° star diagonal, and an 8x50 finderscope. This iteration of the LX90-10ACF is offered here without a tripod for those users who already have a heavy-duty support system or a permanent pier that is capable of carrying it. - Optical Tube Assembly
-
- Large 10" (254mm) aperture reveals exceptional lunar and planetary details, while allowing the observation of dimmer deep-sky objects
- Long 2500mm focal length helps to produce a moderate focal ratio and high magnification potential
- Advanced Coma-Free catadioptric design yields superior image quality and long effective focal length while maintaining a compact form factor
- Ultra-High Transmission Coatings (UHTC) system maximizes light transmission through the entire optical path
- 0.456 arcsec Dawes' Limit resolution enables small objects to be more easily seen while allowing close objects, like binary stars, to be split
- Single-speed internal focusing mechanism
- Standard 1.25" SCT screw-in visual back is compatible with the most popular size of eyepieces and accessories
- Optical Technologies
- Advanced Coma-Free System:
- Reduces off-axis comas and astigmatism for sharper images
- Eliminates diffraction spikes for better resolution
- Aplanatic design produces flat, distortion-free images across the field of view, especially at the edges
Ultra-High Transmission Coatings (UHTC):- All corrector plate and mirror surfaces are fully multi-coated to maximize light transmission and limit light loss
- Engineered to optimize visual, photographic, and CCD imaging
- Improve light transmission across the entire visible spectrum through the optical path
- Corrector plate coatings made up of multiple layers of aluminum oxide (Al2O3), titanium dioxide (TiO2), and magnesium fluoride (MgF2)
- Mirror coatings consist of aluminum with multi-layer coatings of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and silicon dioxide (SiO2)
