Product description The 36-Channel FRS/GMRS 2-Way Radio Set (Pair) by Midland Radio is a hybrid system that offers a combination of GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) and FRS (Family Radio Service) channels. The former require an FCC license to use, but the latter are open to the general public.
The radios have a range of up to 26 miles, and can operate at even longer distances in areas without significant obstructions. There are 121 privacy codes available for use on channels 1-22. Channels 23-36 are what Midland calls "Extra Channels," which are repeats of previous channels (8 GMRS and 4 FRS channels are repeated) and have fixed privacy codes. As long as the privacy codes are set differently between a primary channel and its corresponding repeat channel, they can both be used simultaneously for separate conversations within the same area.
Other key features include Auto Squelch, for reducing background noise, and Channel Scan, which helps you locate channel activity. Three levels of hands-free, voice-activated operation are supported via the eVox feature.
If you're using the radios outdoors, you'll appreciate their ability to scan NOAA Weather Alert Radio and lock on to the conditions and alerts for your local area. The Hi/Lo Power Settings option lets you choose between two transmission power settings. Using the lower setting when the higher one isn't needed allows you to conserve batter life.
Because of their water-resistant design, the radios can withstand light water exposure without sustaining damage. Each radio has a backlit LCD display, which is visible in all types of lighting conditions.
Each radio comes with a battery pack, but can also run off of 4 AAA batteries (not included). The included dual desktop charger lets you charge both radios at once. Built in mic and headphone jacks on the radios allowing you to utilize compatible peripherals. You can integrate these radios with other FRS/GMRS two-way units, allowing you to expand an existing system. - Channels
