Product description The mLogic Canister Software for macOS simplifies working with LTO tape, making it as simple as drag-and-drop to archive and retrieve. With this software, you don't need to access the macOS terminal, and if seamlessly handles illegal characters so there is no problem using your LTO tapes on a Canister or third party system even thirty years from now.
The software allows you to make simultaneous backups, detects duplicates, and runs xxHash64 Checksums throughout the process to ensure your data is accurate. The built-in media management between media tape and storage has been dubbed "Shoeshine Protection" by mLogic, and helps limit the amount of time the tape head starts a recording run on the tape, helping to prevent data loss. Canister also creates transfer logs and media hash lists. - Shoe Shine Protection
- When you are writing from source, such as a network drive, that can't keep up with the speed of your LTO system, the LTO system will cause the tape to wind back and forth, causing the head to lift off and touch down on the tape repeatedly as the tape is wound back and forth. This is known as shoe shining and can cause the tape to wear out and suffer data loss. To prevent wearing out a tape, reading and writing ideally happen in long, continuous runs. Canister eliminates shoe shining by actively managing the supply and demand between tape and storage.

- Canister utilizes URL encoding for all illegal characters, renaming files on the way to tape, and then reversing the process when retrieving the file from tape. This process eliminates the need for a database, so there is simply less to worry about.
