Product description The Neumann D-01 Digital Studio Microphone eliminates the need for external analog pre-amplifiers and analog-to-digital converters. Instead, the analog to digital conversion occurs within the microphone capsule and sends a digital signal to either a digital microphone interface or an AES/EBU connection kit according to the AES42 standard for use with an AES/EBU or S/PDIF audio interface. Multiple Digital Microphone Interfaces and other external equipment can be synchronized via the unit's internal word clock and BNC output. Fifteen different directional characteristics can then be controlled using Neumann's remote control software.
The benefits of digital microphones include a dynamic range of over 130 dB and less errors, nonlinear distortion, and noise voltages within the signal chain. Additionally, having the analog-to-digital conversion at the level of the microphone capsule enables DSP functions such as peak limiting to be integrated into the microphone itself.
The internal Neumann A/D converter is optimized for the signal and impedance parameters of the capsule. This also eliminates the challenges sometimes encountered when matching a Neumann microphone to a pre-amplifier and external A/D converter. The microphone is universally applicable and particularly suitable for applications where maximum resolution and transparency are desired. - Digital Microphone
