Product description Night Detective's Quest 5M Night Vision Monocular is a multipurpose NVD with an outstanding 5x level of magnification. This portable 1st generation nighttime optic is ergonomically designed for ease and simplicity of use when boating, fishing, camping, or any other outdoor activity. For total darkness conditions, the integral IR illuminator provides ample supplementary lighting that is invisible to the human eye. This fine optical device features 5x magnification which performs well when viewing outdoors; smaller subjects become readily identifiable, and scenes viewed across great distances will be rendered with enhanced clarity. This NVD is outfitted with high-quality multi-coated optics that enhance image clarity under difficult viewing conditions The Quest 5M is an indispensable tool for detectives, hunters, yachtsmen, or any individual whose activity involves observations in dark environments. There are many different variables that affect the distance that one can see with a night vision device, among them the object's size, the level of details being sought from the object and the conditions of observation. Night vision devices detect much further under a full moon and clear skies than they will under a new moon and cloudy skies. Many different formulas are used to determine the statistic of maximum viewing range and the method of calculation varies by manufacturer. The important factors to consider when evaluating any night vision device are the intensifier tube's generation, s/n ratio, level of magnification, specified resolution, along with the clarity & light transmission efficiency of the optical system. All night vision devices sold by have mechanisms in place to protect the intensifier tube from a sudden burst of bright light, but this does not mean that bright light doesn't damage the device.
