Product description Connect a variety of Thunderbolt 2, USB 3.0, FireWire 800, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, and 3.5mm audio peripherals to your Mac system using the 12 Port Thunderbolt 2 Dock from OWC / Other World Computing. This dock contains 2 x Thunderbolt 2 (20 Gb/s) ports, 5 x USB 3.0 (5 Gb/s) ports, 1 x FireWire 800 (800 Mb/s) ports, 1 x HDMI 1.4b port, 1 x 3.5mm mic/line in port, and 1 x 3.5mm audio/line out port.
In addition to allowing device connectivity to be expanded beyond the limits of your system, this 12-port dock performs several other functions. For example, two of its USB 3.0 ports are equipped as high-power charging ports for devices such as smartphones, tablets, and virtually any device that may be charged via USB. The Thunderbolt 2 ports will allow up to five Thunderbolt devices to be daisy-chained together, plus a display. The FireWire 800 port will allow up to 63 devices to be daisy-chained together, while the Gigabit Ethernet port will provide a wired network connection to systems that lack an Ethernet port, such as a MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro with Retina display. Additionally, the HDMI 1.4b port supports resolutions up to 4K/30 Hz, and there is DisplayPort 1.2 support for resolutions up to 4K/60 Hz. Lastly, the mic/line in and audio/line out ports will allow items such as microphones, headphones, speakers, and other 3.5mm-compatible accessories to be connected to your system.
The 12 Port Thunderbolt 2 Dock is compatible with any Thunderbolt-equipped Mac running OS X 10.9.5 or later. It operates using an included universal auto-switching 100-240 VAC power supply and also includes a 3.3' / 1.0m Thunderbolt cable. - 2 x Thunderbolt 2 Ports
- Dual Thunderbolt 2 ports can provide up to 20 Gb/s of bandwidth and allow users to connect and daisy-chain up to five Thunderbolt devices plus a display
- 5 x USB 3.0 Ports
- Five USB 3.0 ports can provide up to 5 Gb/s of bandwidth and allows users to connect compatible devices to their system. Additionally, two of the USB 3.0 ports double as high-powered charging ports for devices that may be charged via USB
- 1 x FireWire 800 Port
- The single FireWire 800 port can provide up to 800 Mb/s of bandwidth and allows up to 634 devices to be daisy-chained to this system
- 1 x HDMI 1.4b
- HDMI 1.4b supports resolutions up to 4K/30 Hz for displaying video on an external display, TV, or projector
- DisplayPort 1.2
- DisplayPort 1.2 is also supported, with resolutions up to 4K/60 Hz
- 1 x Gigabit Ethernet
- The Gigabit Ethernet port will provide a wired network connection to systems without an Ethernet port, such as a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro with Retina display
- 2 x 3.5mm Audio Jacks
- The 1 x Mic/Line In port and 1 x Audio/Line Out port allow devices such as microphones, headphones, speakers, and more to be connected to your system
Notes - Dual monitor support requires the use of at least one Thunderbolt display. If you connect a display to the HDMI port, then the only display that will work through the Thunderbolt port is a Thunderbolt display. If you are not using the HDMI port, then you can use a Mini Display Port cable or adapter to connect a display to the Thunderbolt port
- DVI, VGA, DisplayPort, and other connections require the use of a Mini DisplayPort cable or adapter
- USB 3.0 ports are only bootable on Mid 2013 and later Macs
- Thunderbolt, FireWire, and Ethernet, are bootable on all Macs with a Thunderbolt port
- Charging iPad 1, 2, 3, and also Apple SuperDrive support are enabled by OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock drivers
