Product description Photographers' Formulary Borax which is also known as Sodium Borate, can be used as a component in some developer formulas. - Borax acts as an alkali (accelerator), which shortens developing time and helps developing agents work more effectively. Subsequent use of an acid stop bath halts development abruptly by neutralizing the alkali and producing an acid environment. Development will still take place in the absence of an alkali but it will take considerably longer.
- In 1988 the Dial (soap) Corporation bought the exclusive rights to make and sell such home pantry staples as 20-Mule-Team Borax all-purpose cleaner, Borateem stain remover and Boraxo powdered hand soap.
