Product description The Polsen PMA-1 is a personal monitoring amplifier offering coloration-free signal amplification for vocalists and musicians in studio, live stage, and mobile-recording applications. It allows an artist to adjust the blend of their own microphone and monitor levels via easy-to-use gain/volume controls. Setup is straightforward; hook up a mono or stereo line-level source to the 1/4" TRS monitor input, and plug in your preferred headphones to the 1/4" or 3.5mm stereo headphone jack. A mono/stereo switch is provided to enable proper routing of a single- or dual-channel input to both sides of your headphones. Connect a microphone such as a dynamic, ribbon, or condenser mic into the balanced XLR input, then connect the balanced XLR thru jack to a mixing console or mic preamp; any phantom power sent from your mic preamp will pass unimpeded to your microphone. This allows convenient "more me" functionality without inhibiting the creative workflow. All-analog circuitry ensures zero-latency monitoring and microphone throughput. In the event of hum from a ground loop, flip the ground-lift switch for noise-free monitoring. The PMA-1 features a compact, sturdy enclosure for reliable use on and off the road, and includes a 12 VDC power supply. - Versatile Applications
- Artists in studio recording sessions and live performances routinely need personalized level control for their headphone mixes. While multichannel personal monitor mixers can be costly and complex to integrate, the PMA-1 presents a simple way for the talent to control a blend of the main stereo cue mix and their own microphone.
- Simple Controls
- No tutorials or focused training segments are needed to operate the PMA-1. At a glance, the functionality is clear; the mic gain knob adjusts the microphone level, and the monitor level pot controls the headphone volume.
- Latency-Free Headphone Monitoring
- Since the PMA-1 utilizes an analog signal path, no latency is incurred. The artist can monitor their mix devoid of latency caused by digital circuitry. 1/4" and 3.5mm stereo headphone jacks ensure compatibility with a variety of headphones from over-ear models to in-ear monitors or earbuds.
- Balanced XLR Input and Thru
- By incorporating balanced XLR input and thru connectivity for the microphone signal, the PMA-1 maintains the noise- and interference-rejection characteristics of the balanced signal line on its way from the microphone to the mixer, even if it crosses lighting and power cables.
- Selectable Mono/Stereo Mode
- Thanks to a convenient mono/stereo switch, the PMA-1 can accommodate a mono or stereo monitor input while still outputting signal to both sides of the headphones. Use stereo mode to pass a stereo input to the corresponding left and right earphones, or switch to mono mode to route a mono input identically to both earphones.
- Ground-Lift Switch
- With so many electrical devices, audio cables, and power lines in studio and live stage setups, ground loops are a common problem. The PMA-1 features a ground-lift switch designed to eliminate the show-stopping hum that ground loops produce.
