Product description The Rupert Neve Designs Portico 5033 Five-Band Equalizer (Horizontal) is a half-rack unit designed to complement your signal processing chain. The device features custom input and output transformers designed by Rupert Neve to impart harmonic warmth and sweetness to the sound. Multiple units can be connected together via the Buss Input and Output ports on the back of the device.
The EQ features a trim knob that provides ±12 dB of gain. After the gain stage, the signal goes through a selectable low-frequency shelving filter which can boost or cut the signal by an additional 12 dB. The low-frequency shelving filter is useful for removing low-frequency room rumble, attenuating instrument distortion, and adding weight to the mix. After the first shelving filter, the signal goes through three low-mid, mid, and high-mid parametric equalizers with 12 dB of boost/trim and variably adjustable Qs. Each equalizer may be engaged or disengaged independently. Lastly, the signal goes through a selectable high-frequency shelf filter which can be used to add sparkle to your sound. The steep curves of the low and high shelf filters can be used to vary the second and third harmonics of a sound in relation to its fundamental, changing the instrument's natural voicing within the mix. With these controls, you can precisely adjust the sound signature to your liking.
With the push of the master bypass button, the equalizer section can also be removed from the signal completely, and the device can be used as a line-level driver to enhance the tonality of your sound. - Low-Frequency Shelf
- The first EQ stage of the device utilizes a low-frequency shelf filter that can be variably set between 30 and 300 Hz. The low-frequency shelf filter is useful for removing room rumble, attenuating low-frequency instrument distortion, and adding weight to the mix
- Low-Mid Parametric EQ
- The second EQ stage of the device utilizes a low-mid parametric EQ with 12 dB of trim and a selectable Q from 50 to 400 Hz
- Mid Parametric EQ
- The third EQ stage of the device utilizes a mid parametric EQ with 12 dB of trim and a selectable Q from 330 to 2500 Hz
- High-Mid Parametric EQ
- The fourth EQ stage of the device utilizes a high-mid parametric EQ with 12 dB of trim and a selectable Q from 1,800 to 16,000 Hz
- High-Frequency Shelf
- The fifth EQ stage of the device utilizes a high-frequency shelf filter that can be variably set between 2,500 and 25,000 Hz
- Master Bypass
- The master bypass button removes the EQ sections from the signal chain, allowing you to use the device as a line-level driver to enhance the tonality of your sound
