It is pre-formatted as HFS+ for Mac OS X 10.7 and later and connects to your system using its USB 3.0 interface, which is not only bus powered and requires no external power supplies, but also compatible with USB 2.0. While this drive is formatted for Mac, Seagate's included Paragon driver enables HFS+ compatibility for Windows, allowing this drive to be read from and written to in Windows without needing to be reformatted.
Seagate has also bundled this drive with its Dashboard software, which provides tools for mobile cloud and social media backup. Seagate's free Mobile Backup app can be installed on iOS or Android mobile devices and used to back up pictures and videos from a mobile device to an external drive.
