Advantages of a variable ND over a set of NDs include being able to make minute adjustments in increments of less than a 1/3rd of a stop as well as making quicker adjustments than having to swap out different filters.
The included 35mm lens covers Four Thirds-sized sensors, provides a wide aperture range to choose from and is meant to work with cameras that have an MFT mount. The lens's non-rotating front allows you to use a polarizer or variable polarizer while avoiding unwanted exposure shifts or polarizing effect changes when focusing your lens.
