Product description Available for download, Sonible’s proximity:EQ+ is a software equalizer, room-enhancement module, dereverberation tool, and presence shaping plug-in all rolled into one. It utilizes algorithms that analyze incoming audio, apply a frequency curve to the audio, and allow you to effectively alter the listener's depth-perception of the signal. Whether you choose to emphasize the sound—say for an acoustic guitar or a drum set—or the space around the sound, proximity:EQ+ works to help you get the most appropriate timbre for the situation, securing depth and proper mix balance in the process. You can achieve these effects on a global scale with the master proximity dial, bringing the entire instrument or sound source out of (or deeper into) its ambiance. Conversely you can choose to do this on a frequency-specific basis. If you choose the latter approach, look to the band-specific EQ panel just above the frequency analyzer; here you’ll note a small ruler tool which, when selected, turns the band of the equalizer into what Sonible calls a proximity band. Now you can move a range of frequencies out of their natural acoustic space, or submerge them deeper therein. If you don’t select this ruler tool, the plug-in operates like a conventional equalizer with eight bands. You can also choose to not use the spectral analyzer, and just use your ears; that's possible through the blind:flug mode, which expands the layout of band-specific controls. It’s important to note that this software doesn’t generate artificial reverb; it merely allows you to work with—to separate or enhance—the natural ambiance already present. This software is compatible with Mac and Windows platforms, and can run in AU, VST2, VST3, and AAX formats. Authorization can be achieved on your machine or with a Pace iLok. - Draw the Source Closer
- Sometimes during recording, the recording microphone can be placed too far from the source; perhaps the grand piano turns out muddy because too much ambiance was recorded. In these situations, proximity:EQ+ lets you draw the voice significantly closer and give the muddy piano a crisper sound.
- Add Depth and Space
- It is also possible that the microphone was placed too close to the sound source. In these situations, the sound can lack natural spaciousness, and here proximity:EQ+ seamlessly distances the sound source without affecting its original character. This adds a feeling of depth to the element in question—and to the overall mix as a result.
- Dispatch Room Resonances Quickly and Effectively
- Perfectly positioning the microphones doesn't change the inherent qualities of a room's acoustics. If the room isn't any good, mixing the sound can feel like an uphill battle. The technology of proximity:EQ+ opens entirely new possibilities for amending detrimental room modes in post-production while leaving the direct sound relatively untouched.
