Product description The B&H Binocular Buying Guide Read More fawesveacqtwsadarv Designed with the discerning birder in mind, the Steiner Optics 8x42 Peregrine Binocular is outfitted with an array of features to make it your go-to optic for all your wildlife observation needs. The BAK4 roof prisms are phase corrected to ensure accurate color representation and improved contrast, while fully multi-coated lenses maximize light transmission to provide crisp high-contrast views. The binocular's moderate 8x magnification ensures a wide field of view and exit pupil to make scanning the landscape easier with minimal head movement while ensuring steady images without the distracting hand shake that can interfere with the glassing experience. These optical features are complemented by Steiner's Fast Close Focus and Distance-Control systems that make focusing at all distances fast and easy, so you can quickly react when opportunities present themselves. Fold-down rubber winged eyecups help you focus on the view by blocking your peripheral vision and also prevent stray light from interfering with your views so images appear crisper and clearer with greater contrast. The chassis is made from Makrolon polycarbonate that is impact and corrosion resistant. Makrolon is also temperature resistant, so the optical tubes won't expand and contract with temperature fluctuation, which, over time, can cause the optics to move out of collimation, preventing the binocular from being able to achieve sharp focus. The chassis is wrapped with a long-lasting NBR rubber armoring, which not only protects it from drops and impacts, it also gives the binocular a slip-resistant grip—especially in cold and wet weather. Its optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to make them water and fogproof, even in extreme conditions. - Optical Performance
-
- 8x power brings subjects in close for observation without sacrificing field of view or exit pupil
- 42mm objective lenses boost light-gathering capability to improve vision in challenging conditions such as at dawn and dusk or on heavy overcast days
- Compact roof prism light path ensures performance without adding excessive weight and bulk
- BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
- Phase-correcting prism coatings eliminate internal interference to improve color and contrast
- Relatively short 6.6-foot minimum focusing distance allows for extremely detailed observations of small birds, bugs, insects, flora, and fauna at close range
- Wide 62° apparent angle of view allows the user to see large areas without having to move their head, making it easy to scan the landscape for subjects without startling them
- Generous 410-foot field of view at 1000 yards
- Use and Handling
-
- Closed bridge configuration provides a solid platform for the internal focusing mechanism
- Large slip-resistant center focus knob is easy to manipulate in cold and wet weather or while wearing gloves
- Fast Close Focus system enables fast tack-sharp and precision focusing from 6.6' to infinity with minimal rotations
- Distance-Control System enables presetting to a known observation distance and sharp focusing with one simple turn of the focusing wheel
- Fold-down rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
- Wide 5.25mm exit pupil will completely cover pupils as they open and fully dilate in low light to ensure the whole scene remains in view without vignetting
- Construction Details
-
- Impact- and corrosion-resistant Makrolon polycarbonate chassis
- Chassis' temperature resistance ensures it stays a comfortable handling temperature in cold or wet conditions, while resisting the expansion and contraction common with metal chassis that can cause the optical components to move out of alignment over time
- Oil-, petroleum-, and chemical-resistant NBR synthetic rubber armor offers improved grip security, especially in cold and wet weather
- O-ring sealed and nitrogen filled to be waterproof to 9.9' (3m) and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme changes in temperature or environmental conditions
- Tethered objective lens caps and one-piece ocular rainguard protect the lens surfaces without the fear of losing them when not in use
- Ergonomic winged angled eyecups block stray light from interfering with views while improving contrast and limiting distractions
- Broad -4 to 158°F (-20 to 70°C) operating temperature range
