Product description The SPM5 500 Series Mic Pre from Studio Projects is a 500 Series mic preamp with mic, instrument, and line level input capabilities, and is designed by the creator of Tonelux. It features separate input and output gain controls, providing 60dB of input gain and 10dB of output gain. The unit features an adjustable Radiance control that adds high-frequency 2nd harmonic content to provide clarity without boosting your gain.
The preamp has a front-panel combination XLR/TRS jack allowing you to connect instrument or line level sources. An impedance switch adjusts the mic pre to be suited for ribbon mics. The SPM5 requires a 500 Series chassis for operation. - Gain
- Use this control to set the appropriate gain for your source, be it microphone or instrument. Use the LED meter and your ears to adjust the amount of gain desired
- LED Metering
- Adjustable between pre or output gain reading
- Output
- The output knob functions similarly as a fader on a mixing console. Once you have your preamp gain properly set, use this to determine the overall output level of the SPM5
- 70Hz
- A high-pass, or bass-cut filter to remove frequencies below 70Hz
- POL
- This switch reverses the polarity of the microphone signal. It can correct the wiring of older, non-AES equipment, change the character of the sound from mics when using two mics on one source
- IMP
- This switch adjusts the input impedance your mic "sees," and is designed for use with ribbon mics
- Radiance
- This button adds a layer of high-frequency 2nd harmonic distortion to the pre, allowing you to add shimmer to the high end. Adds clarity and presence without adding to the overall recording level
- 48V
- Phantom power for active microphones, such as condensers
- INST
- Engage this switch if you are plugging a line level signal or instrument, such as guitar or bass, into the SPM5
