Product description The DMC-285R Vertical Rail with "On-End" Clamp from Sunwayfoto is a modular component that can be used in combination with other, separately-available Sunwayfoto rails, clamps, and lens supports. Together, they create a stable platform for a camera and a telephoto lens, which can then be mounted to an Arca-type tripod head. At one end of the DMC-285R vertical rail is a built-in, side-facing Arca-type clamp. A lens with an attached lens foot that has a 1/4"-20 female accessory thread along its bottom can be mounted onto the DMC-285R vertical rail so that the front of the lens's barrel points in the same direction as the clamp. An included 1/4"-20 screw threads into the DMC-285R vertical rail's center slot, creating a 1/4"-20 lens mount. That mount can then be moved up to 193mm within the center slot for optimal positioning before it is screwed into a lens foot or lens foot collar.
The Arca-type clamp built into the end of the DMC-285R vertical rail provides a connection point for Sunwayfoto Y-Type lens supports that feature an Arca-type compatible design. When placed within a DMC-285R vertical rail's clamp, a Y-Type lens support is able to physically brace the front of a telephoto lens's barrel. In such instances where the telephoto lens's barrel is not directly held up by the user, the Y-Type lens support serves to eliminate the potential for vibrations to affect the front of the lens, helping to maintain image sharpness. Additionally, a Sunwayfoto subtend clamp can be used to connect another Sunwayfoto vertical rail with "on end" clamp holding a Y-Type lens support to the other end of the DMC-285R vertical rail. The camera attached to the telephoto lens can then be braced as well, further ensuring that the weight of the entire camera and lens combination is evenly distributed.
Alternatively, the DMC-285R vertical rail can be used as a replacement component for Sunwayfoto panoramic head kits that include a DMC-200 Vertical Rail with "On-End" Clamp. When part of a panoramic head kit, a Sunwayfoto DMC-200 vertical rail's end clamp allows the rail to serve as a sliding, vertical arm. As a replacement vertical arm, the DMC-285R vertical rail provides 285mm of height, 85mm more than a DMC-200 vertical rail. The additional height can help ensure that a camera and lens used with the DMC-285R vertical rail produces images that are properly aligned with a panoramic subject, while fully applying the resolution of the camera's sensor in the portrait orientation.
For direct attachment to accessories such as a tripod or straps that feature 1/4"-20 mounts, the DMC-285R vertical rail is tapped with eleven 1/4"-20 female accessory threads. Two retaining screws are included, one for use along the end opposite of the DMC-285R vertical rail's built-in clamp, the other as a spare. Should the clamp holding a DMC-285R vertical rail within an Arca-type tripod head be opened, an installed retaining screw helps prevent the vertical rail from accidentally sliding off. -
