Product description Inspired by the coveted vintage tube amplifiers with the same nickname, now you can add those highly sought-after tones to your own rig, without the back-breaking weight of a full stack or the face-melting volume levels required to conjure up the magical tones of the original amps. You can easily generate those organic vintage and hot-rodded tube amp tones and add them to your own arsenal with the Hot-Rod Plexi Pedal from Tech 21. Place the pedal in front of any clean or overdriven amp, whether it's tube or solid state, vintage or modern, and you can instantly alter its personality, giving it the tonal characteristics of a stock '68 Plexi or a hot-rodded monster with more gain. Featuring dual footswitches, the left footswitch activates the pedal's "Stock" mode for the sound of a stock '68 Plexi, and also functions to bypass the pedal entirely. Once the Stock mode has been activated, the right footswitch will engage the "Hot" mode, which adds an extra stage of preamp gain, as if you hot-rodded the amp with an additional 12AX7 tube for up to 28 dB of additional preamp boost and higher gain levels that are regulated by a separate Level control. Also included is the "Punch" control, which acts as a modified mid frequency control. The Hot-Rod Plexi pedal can also be used with Tech 21's SansAmp line of preamps and pedals, minimizing valuable real estate on stage and in the studio. Controls - Level
- Adjusts the output level of the unit
- Tone
- A musical, specialized low pass filter that shifts the high cut from 10 to 1 kHz
- Punch
- A wide-band midrange EQ adjustment at 500 Hz. Gradually changes its bandwidth with the amount of cut or boost. Most tube amps have passive tone controls that naturally scoop, which is good for clean sounds. However, for dirty sounds and scorching leads, you need to have a balance for the midrange, which you can dial in with the Punch control
- Drive
- Adjusts the overall amount of gain and overdrive, similar to when the output section of a tube amp is being pushed
- Hot
- Activated via its own footswitch, you can kick in up to 28 dB of preamp boost with the Hot control, which functions like an extra stage of gain with an additional 12AX7 preamp tube. The range allows you to go from a state of mild overdrive to insane gain
Modes - Stock / Bypass
- The left footswitch engages and disengages the pedal, as indicated by the corresponding LED. In Stock mode, it's as if you have the signal path from the input jack to the speaker jack (without the speaker emulation) of a stock '68 Plexi
- Hot
- The right footswitch engages and disengages the Hot function. The pedal must be activated with the Stock LED lit in order to add the extra gain and boost provided by the Hot mode
